Go to the pictures section in that link from above. It looks like an Amon Duul or Nick Drake album cover. S'cool. Just surprising given that the last pictures I saw of them were from 10 years ago.

drugs? laziness? annoyance with the scene? fatigue?
total boredom with making electronic music by numbers? wake-up kids, dance/techno is dead. the golden era of orbital, FSOL, Orb is over.

the new underground pop is back to guitar, bass, drums and vocals.

time to ditch your midi and your samples and learn how to play an instrument!

hmm...so cos chagos has a different view to yours that makes him a troll ?
i use ableton to record my synth, I could just as easily be recording a guitar - so dont even suggest that he's a troll for discrediting techno on the ableton forum. its his view, and he's entitled to it to relay it without being called a troll. you obviously didnt read the definition you linked to, in its entirety.

I never got into FSOL ... i remember noting to myself that it was cheesy as hell, loads of pads right ?

I ain't no troll.

I've accidentallly found myself following FSOL's evolution as a more acoustic "band". I grew sick and tired of sequencing and taking a clinical laboratory approach to making music. I found it stifling.

I am currently trying to find an electric bass guitar to add to my studio, as I am slowly finding so much more inspiration into instruments I can hold and get a groove on with.

I won't be surprised to be shopping for a drum kit in the next year or so.

plasticky keys, knobs, faders, mice, quantization, loops and 50GB romplers have killed my vibe.

Back to basics.

I've a lot of respect for FSOL - ISDN is probably my favourite, but their bold (unpopular) step to make amorphous androgynous what it is, is purely a statement of how genuine they are to their music even at the cost of losing a large core of their fanbase who expected more dead cities.

I used to love electronic beats and synthymentation; but these days nothing gets my old man's feet tapping like some of this new non-tronic honest rock n roll that they are playing in the clubs.

I hope I've justified myself as a non-troller...

Britney, you sampling looping midi-loving biatch! (oops, that might count as a flame)

Nah, I been called worse.
:)

I dig what you're saying actually. I haule dout my bass last week (most of my gear is in storage until I buy a house) and it was great! Missed the combination of real live instruments with the 'lectronics. I used to do it alot more. I go through phases.

I never discount the power of any instrument, though. The use of MIDI and samples and VST's is a very young art. Guitars have been electrified for decades and used for hundreds. And they're not played out at all. Only the unimaginative would say anything is played out.
