Huh, I wanted to be there. I expressed my opinion and helped chill things out. It was productive and I like trying to be a positive influence on the forums where I participate. I've been doing BBSs and interactive web sites for longer than I have been doing music, so these issues of site structure, attitude and community have been issues I have been interested in for a long time. I am also part of a sailboat racing team and manage and play for two indoor soccer (futsal) teams, so I have strong beliefs about what it takes to build teamwork and good communication, and that influences my actions here and in other forums.

I surf, play pick-up basketball, jam with my friends, engineer large tracking sessions and play competitive team golf. So I have strong beliefs about what it takes to not sweat your colleagues and to have a good time, and that influences my actions here. (In my only forum)

Hyerstay - you joined here a long time ago and I even remember you giving me mac advice years ago, but since then you obviously havent been around much to say all that. The Abes have stepped in when it was important and they have also answered in several of the other million threads on this topic - but you must realise that firstly this has been discussed a tedious amount of times and always been answered the same, so it doesnt make sense for them to waste valuable coding time flogging the same dead horse. Plus, the whole "camp ableton" thing was about acknowledging the strong community and they firmly believe in self regulation - and understand that many of the long term members help in that.

honestly - you are talking about a mac vs pc thread - it's hardly an important use of forum time, and really people that keep them going should know better - so you cant really complain about that it should just be left alone. I would actually feel a bit like Abe was wasting his collective time following the latest in 550 billion mac vs pc threads

about a week ago in one of the last threads on this topic I counted - on the front page aorund 40 thread, 33 of them were Live, music or technology based, 7 were OT and one of them was the thread it was in, an other 2 were taking the piss out of the OT threads - not a bit problem IMO

dude, dont click on the stupid threads - end of story

I don't really care as much as it might sound like. I just saw this thread and responded about how I feel about forums in general. You're right that the Ableton forums run themselves pretty well.

this is largely a social forum anyway. even the "old pros" post their idle thoughts and rants about ridiculous personal fetishes.

if you want a cold sterile support forum, you've come to the wrong company.

Live is ... live, social and human, and so is its forum.

While the most noise may be made by empty vessels, it isn't harming anyone else, so let these socially reclusive hermit DJs live out meaningless dialogues online if it makes them happy.

For those who get irritated by OT posts, here is a tip. READ THE SUBJECT BOX.

This forum is mildly moderated. We remove posts from spam bots, and we very rarely remove offensive posts. And in one or two cases we changed an offensive subject. But appart from this we really believe our users are adult persons and can speak for them selves.

If you want to increase the signal to noise ratio you can either ban OT threads or you can educate your comunity to use helpful subjects. If i find another "why is commodore better then texas instruments? " thread i can igore it. But if I have to click on a thread labeled "FUCKING PROBLEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" to find out that someone experiences hum on his microphone input i really waste my time.
