IMO, having a separate OT section, moderation, etc, is unnecessary as long as we have the common sense to provide a descriptive topic when starting a new thread. Then, as Robert says, it's easy to see what to ignore.

If I was moderator

You would need to at least

make one reference to

PARIS HILTON and how HOT she is
One reference to me, you can talk shit or holla - just mention my name, I don't really care

and

if I was moderator

every friday would be free ICE Cream Friday <-- I tried this once in a political setting and it was shot down, but I'm not giving up on it

If I was moderator by DJ ADONIS Two Oh SIX...

I like the OT threads, if I don't want to read them - I don't read them. but I enjoy the others and wouldn't want them to moderated or censored.

As far as I'm concerned we only need moderation to get rid of a**holes who bait and flame people. And I ignore them too. There have been some racist and obnoxious posts here, as a community it's up to us to discourage it and give no attention to these people. Flaming back mackes it worse. If you see dodgy stuff appearing notify ableton and they can decide if it goes against legal guidelines or the spirit of the forum.

Sorry to go OT. :)

Ive not been here for very long, but i do enjoy the OT, you kinda get to know the person who writes them a little bit more.

i agree with an anonymous mod in the background and an OT section to keep things clear and to avoid to spread to much nonsense... which lately occurs to often, or softer spoken keeps the level down rather then up. (not killing OTs they are to much fun) someone with indeepth knowledge of Live and Production / Gear in GENERAL would be good!!!

my 2cents.

We're happy to have this place at all.
Ableton doesn't have to have a forum. They just did it.....

There's already too much moderation IMO.
Self-moderation, something i often do myself.
And it works for the most part, because it's not that hard to make somebody feel ashamed for trolling. Especially when they realize that themselves.

An OT section will do diddly squad....
Want proof? Check the tips and tricks section..
Count the amount of feature requests in the general and beta forums....

The link your music section and the local sections were good additions.
An OT and a general section will be the same for the most part. So it's hardly required at all.

A forum is what you make of it. Some take it seriously, some don't.
Is it serious? It can be...
This forum determined the course of the next years of my life. Simply because I (and others) already spent countless days to provide content and know-how.
The most of my posts probably don't have anything to do with Ableton Live. But that doesn't make my efforts worthless.

Newbie's see this as a message board. But eventually they'll realize that it is a community.

point is the place where most people hang out will also be where most of the input and ideas are

split up forums are boring because you never know which sub menu to click on

A lot of people have voted in this poll...it's interesting to see the 50/50 split after over 140 votes.

Quite frankly, after reading all the comments I see positives and negatives to both sides...the bottom line is that this forum has worked for Ableton for quite some time so for them, there's no reason to fix something thats not necessarily broken.

I think everyone would be happy if ALL the OT posts were prefixed with OT (which of course this one wasn't  and some sort of filter could be added to eliminate any posts that had OT in them.

Yeah, yeah, I know, people can just not look at OT posts...as with just about anything, I guess sometimes you just have to dig through all the dirt to get to the gold.

i think the poll's misleading, b/c the issue seems to be whether there should a separate OT section, not whether there should be a moderator. as for me, i find the OT marginally irritating sometimes, but it's not like removing the noise would create more signal. and i don't know what you get from an OT section if OT threads already have OT in the subject line.

Actually it's not a 50/50 split. The couldn't care less's get added to the I like's.

I f you don't care, then you are in favor of changing nothing.

Certainly, a "don't change" mandate by a wide margin.

Sorry knotkranky, while i understand why you would think to add the "couldn't care less" responses to the "don't change" responses, this wouldn't be the case. I work for a survey research firm and they specifically put those types of response options in surveys for the purpose of increasing the 'confidence' of the other responses...sort of a weeding out purpose to boost the statistical significance of the other yes/no responses. Not saying that this poll is anything remotely like a 'real' survey, but for purposes of arguing whether the "don't care" responses should be included with one or the other, it sort of applies.
