i know what you're saying but a samplist is looking for something different in the feel of a percussive instrument than someone using sticks, a samplist is trying to feel the sample all the way through where by someone using drumsticks is more or less only concerned with the point of contact, I mayb have not articulated it well but most musicians like shadow, chemist and the like don't use sticks for a reason.dj superflat wrote:but you can't do with drums what you can do with the alesis pad or the MPC, and i don't see how the thing on which you hit pads makes much of a difference (other than it's likely easier to have better touch banging away with sticks (based on velocity, size of what you're hitting, etc.)). so i don't think it's at all like saying they should play drums, just that the way they interact with pads doesn't seem interesting to me (and if you can hit pads in time with your fingers, you can do it with sticks -- we're not talking paradiddles).
don't get me wrong, it's much, much worse when (e.g.) someone plays drums via a midi guitar -- there's nothing to see or relate to. with pads you kinda see it, but with drum pads you see the strike and it resonates with the sound, makes more sense for an audience. just my take.
Mac, Mpc, and a Microphone

Point directly to the quote where he said he is ditching the mpc for live. I can see hes not using it so much but I saw no mention of live. I do know that the stuff he has been working on the past two years has been pro tools.frisbeedisk wrote:Did you read the article in future music - shadow is ditching his mpc for live!!

Yeh fucking aye man. I have a shit load of respect for the shadow and know his shit way better than those arse holes commenting. I should have said what you did bOunce but I didnt want to hurt their fucking fragile senses tonight.b0unce wrote:, his music turned to shit as he ditched the mpc - so I dont see it as an endorsement for ableton live - if he is indeed using that now.
Your so fucking right, the mans music is total shit now compared to what it usd to be. Its so fucking sad but i can empathise with him on this although he doesnt know why yet, hes thinking hes developing and shit. This is exactly why im moving away from ableton for sequencing, my shit was a hundred times better before. This all in one shit drains your soul like fucking dracula and sahdows shit is glowing testimony to that. NOT A FUCKING GLOWING TESTIMONY TO DAWs OR LIVE.
thanks for nudging me on this one bOunce I forgot where I was for a moment.
So yeh
If Shadow did switch to live it will destroy him completely.

still looked a lot better than a specky mask wearing geek behind a computer with a mouse in his hand

..or give him a new and exciting approach to composing that might spark some gems.? Besides, tools don’t make the music. Shadow will do his thing regardless of if its on a MPC/Live/Logic/Tape recorder..mercyplease wrote:b0unce wrote:If Shadow did switch to live it will destroy him completely.
