logic exs vs abes sampler

Post by dogma - » Tue Oct 31, 2006 12:23 pm

I want sampler real bad - exs is great in some ways but I've heard Kontakt/exs direct comparisons and the difference is HUGE. The previous beauty of the exs was its light CPU usage but that has been totally negated due to the super-duper intel chips that are out nowadays.

What are your experiences with samplers sound quality compared to that of other samplers (EXS,Kontakt, halion, Giga...)?

The EXS rocks hard.

I loathe the exs. Doing anything multi-sampled sucks on it. Way better in Sampler.

What exactly do you mean by sound quality? Are you talkng about interpolation?

EXS is a very "standard" sampler - it is comprehensive, stable and one of the most prolific formats available.

It really depends on your workflow. It sounds like you are happy with EXS but maybe it is time to upgrade to a more modern solution :? . Personally, I would go with ableton sampler over NI's Kontakt - it's more flexible and you can do just as many things with much less screen real estate - minus the multitimbrality. **NI seems to only update kontakt once every 18 months :x

I personally hate EXS24, but that's my opinion and you really should try things for yourself rather than asking on a message board.

In the EXS if I want to lay out say two dozen samples all on one key each, at original pitch, I can quickly import them all at once and select "chromatic" layout - voila: all mapped for me.

Can Sampler do anything simillar to speed up workflow?

The abes need to come up with some workflow features I reckon,

like, right clicking on a bunch of session-view clips and mapping them to keys in SAMPLER. That kind of thing. Even adding that basic function would be a huge time saver
