Is it possible to assign a controller to turn a VST on/off?

Post by markone » Fri Nov 17, 2006 9:42 am

Normally I don't require this but for one VST, this would be really useful, and that is Glitch. I am also basing this question on using this VST in a live situation.

Currently Glitch scrolls through a pattern whenever it is on, but if that pattern is over 4 bars, and the tune I am playing adds an extra bar in here or there (on build ups for example) the pattern becomes out of sync.

However, if I were able to turn Glitch on when I needed to use it, it would always begin to scroll from the beginning, and solve my problem.

Assign a macro to the on/off button in Live 6.

OK,

I'll look into this. I haven't looked into the functionality of macros yet. Is this task simple enough to achieve?

You could stick glitch on a track and route whatever you want to it, the simply mute the track
Live 9 Suite, audio trackles (several audio tracks that crackle)

I think even when a track is muted, Glitch still keeps scrolling through its pattern.

The only way to start the pattern from the beginning is to turn Glitch on when you need to use it.

Yeah. But now you can disable all devices in a track (or chain) with one midi button.
In Live 4 we had to remap messages to do that.

OK.

To throw something into the equation. I'm using Glitch in a Dummy Clip. Is there the ability to turn the actual VST on in the dummy clip or just adjust the parameters?

i use Glitch on my master track in my dj template. one button is assigned to on/off. don't see any problems here. works in sync as well...

Yes. See my first suggestion ;).
Map a macro to the on/off button and you can map the 7 other macro's to any of the available parameters in glitch.

i usually make a bunch of instances of glitch and just draw in the automation for device on/off for each instance. this gets around the limited 64 steps (or whatever) that glitch gives you to sequence on. so if glitch 1 is on, glitch 2-10 are off, when glitch 2 turns on, glitch 1,3,4,5.....10 are off. it may seem like a pain, but often i'm sloppy and forget to turn some of them off but that's when other cool things start to happen.
