padKontrol CC changes — light issue
padKontrol CC changes — light issue
When pads are set to send CC changes, the pad blinks on momentarily.
I would like the pad to turn on when hit, and stay lit until it is hit again, so I have some visual feedback as to what loop is playing (besides the computer screen).
Has anyone tried this?

I only just got a padkontrol recently and haven't had much time to play with it, so I haven't had a chance to figure this out. I do have this thread bookmarked, which might have the answer in it. It seems like it might not really be possible without some work in max or something, but there might be more recent info on this elsewhere.phirewall wrote:anybody?

To the best of my knowledge, you can't do that.
The lights are pretty much non-programmable. I think they were mostly an afterthough when designing the PK. Just select the ripple light effect and roll with it!

Thanks for the replies...
I got a sysex list from Korg..
from what I can tell it IS possible in native mode, but will require some hacking on the software side. I just have to figure out now how to get Midi-Ox or something of the sort to bounce a sysex message back to padKontrol every time a pad is hit.
I'm surprised no one has written a hack for this yet.. as popular as the DM2MIDI software is I would think people would jump on the chance to do similar things with a more professional controller.
Maybe Korg will come around and release a firmware update..

I got that sysex list a few months ago too... I have been able to send messages to it, making it enter Native Mode, but after that I am unable to get information out of it after that - I believe you have to tell the PadKontrol to not only enter Native Mode, but also to start transmitting sysex after that.phirewall wrote:Thanks for the replies...

I have officially given up now - I suck at sysex, and I can get more milage out of doing other gadgets instead.
BUT I am willing to test and help out whenever.

Re: padKontrol CC changes — light issue
Unfortunately, Korg really dropped the ball on the visual feedback possibilities in the PadKontrol. Those lights are only slightly more useful than absolutely useless.phirewall wrote:When pads are set to send CC changes, the pad blinks on momentarily.

Not quite - according to the documentation there is full access to all parameters from hosts using Native Mode - even the LED display can be controlled remotely (scrolling text?) and the encoder will send information too. It's just a matter of hacking this properly. Urgh. I wish we had some sysex-junkies among us. I'd be willing to set up the appropriate software once I hear the first guy getting info while in Native Mode. Who knows, maybe my unit is just broken...M. Bump.
If anyone gets this working reliably, I'm sure I'm not the only one that would pay to have this functionality. Yes, Korg could quit dicking around and release a firmware update but this obviously isn't a priority for them.
If anyone else is down we should pool our $$ resources to convince a good sysex head to help out.
