Battery 3 opinions?

To offer a counterpoint (meaning get the umbrellas out, as I'm about to shit on this parade), I think Battery 3 ok, but mainly for people who do real-sounding drums. My counterpoints:

1. The samples are 12gb because there are multiple velocity layers - great for real drums, not the best when you have to hunt through them to line 'em up like my man Tarekith does.

2. Impulse, Simpler, Racks, and Sampler render the need for Battery to a lower level. Again, great for real drums, but for an electronic music producer, not a big benefit.

3. CPU usage is good, but make sure you set the default outputs in the prefs to what you need. The default is 8 Stereo, 8 Mono, which uses up a lot of CPU right out of the gate. Also, a lot of the kits use per-pad effects, so they can tend to eat up CPU.

On the flip side:
1. Ease of use
2. Stability
3. Insta-drums
4. Lots of presets
5. Quality sounds

Since you've already ordered it, you might also look at Synthetic Drums I & II for Battery.

I am using battery less and less.

and I have made a rack of 32 simplers.
That I like quite a bit.

I’ll add my vote for Battery 3. I am a huge analogue drum advocate, owned a xBase09, Airbase, 808 and a Korg KPR77. All great machines and currently saving for a xBase999. Before Christmas we were asked to do a track for some project with a deadline of about 7 days. Because of the time pressure we decided to use Battery for the first time for the main drums (usually just bells and whistles). It made me really question my analogue loyalties.. Probably still going to get a 999 but also going to carry on using Battery.

Btw, the track is called Wot?! (hit the link to listen) and all the drum sounds are Battery. It is a complete steal in terms of value for money.. Get it!!

Oh, BTW, wanted to add that for me, it's all about the cell library. Being able to switch out hits while youre looping to find the right kit pieces is ingenious. I don't have to guess how things will layer or sound together any longer.

Oh, and nebulae, I do EDM and IDM, predominantly all electronic music, with a LOT of synthetic/synth sounding hits in my music, and the vast majority of the sounds I use come from teh battery 3 library. I think it's GREAT for electronic music, just to offer another viewpoint....

I guess I should clarify that it's not bad for electronic, just well-suited for drum sounds that require lots of depth/layers per sound. Also, knowing how Tarekith produces, I don't think he'd gat as much out of Battery's workflow.

I'm definitely a fan, guys, just not a fanboy

I like it so far, some bugs here and there, but more or less it's behaving.

Sounds are awesome, and the effects re nice too. Still getting used to midi programming again, but I expected that.

Now if we could just get Ableton to do some sort of groove quantize, without resorting to work arounds like master tempo clips

You can always get the a plugin like EnergyXT and do groove quantising inside Live.

I know, it's a pain in the ass...

Not an option, too fiddly, too much to manage. It's not a biggy, I think I'm just going to leave quatize off completely for this album now...

Battery sounds so f-ing great to me... it was one of the first things that I heard in "the box" that just blew my mind and I've been addicted since.

My only gripe is that you can see the sample names in the midi layout the way you can in impulse.

I'm still on version 2 at this stage but I am excited about 3.
