OT: Anyone here work out (exercise)?
Me and my my boss and co worker work out Monday Wednesday and Friday in the home built junk yard gym. Doing weights, legs, etc. My boss is an inventor and has invented some of the worlds most advanced fitness equipment so we have the luxury/option of working out on his 4 minute workout machines. I also surf 5-7 days a week and ride my bike each of those days down to the surfboard lockers which totals a couple miles.
but before I moved to Hawaii a few years ago I had not worked out since 9th grade PE class. Which had been like 12- 13 years. I was tall and skinny. When I came here I weighed 160lbs at 6' 3". My boss got me up to 200lbs within 8 months of working out.
it is so much better to be in shape; your thinking cap is on better than ever, and you look and feel good. stay in shape, so when you are older you can party, party, party and not fall apart from it. I learned that from my Dad.

I've been swimming laps 3-4 mornings a week for about 5 years - my wife grew up with the whole swim team thing and she got me going. I'm amazed at how it makes your inner engine burn - you walk outside on a freezing cold day 1/2 hour after your swim and there's still steam coming off your body - feels great.

I aim for 3 hour long sessions in the gym per week....15 minutes of cardio followed by 45 minutes of weight training. I believe the most important thing is to get aerobic exercise in at least 3x a week. For exercise to be aerobic it has to elevate your heart rate for at least 12 minutes, and involve the lower body as well.
Its pretty easy to get into the habit of exercise, if you want to. If you do it consistently for a few months, the payoffs in your health will probably be all the motivation you need to keep going. Exercise has got to be one of the 3 single best things you can do, period.
it's like living on a whole new level
..... . . . . . . . . .
I do, but you wouldn't know by looking at me
I have some spine and internal problems that keep my from doing whatI want, but I try to ride my bike in the summer (now basically) and then there's the little "fitness 19" gym I go to.
The problem with the gym is that I hate being in there, with the other "good lookers" with the music too loud (so I can't enjoy my own) and the air conditioning at minus 420 c!
I mean......who enjoys running/sweating in gym clothes when it's really really cold?

Should I make a video too ?
sadly, it isn't like that that 100% for everyone.
I say that because there are some of us who have beat ourselves up trying to obtain ......even an acceptable body......and can't do it.
For example, Oprah has more money than god.......she wanted the thin thing more than anyone......and I beleive probably tried harder than anyone......and for what? Up and down and up and down......
some people just have other problems..........
My waist size can change two sizes in a day.....for no reason....doctors can't figure it out.......ok, I'm gonna get off my soapbox.....
regardless of your prefered size, it is better to be active sometimes than never at all. It's more about doing something you'd like to do than worrying about it being "exercise".

Ditto, being out on the trails is the most inspiring thing for me too, though I liek it without music. Exercise is my time to NOT focus on music for a change, so it's nice for me to leave that at home. Ditto on gyms, no desire what so ever to visit gyms. I'm that guy out running in January when it's -20, and I've got all the weights I need at home. My wife's total opposite, she can't do it without the motivation of a gym, so I see both sides.hambone1 wrote:I get my best (and worst!) ideas in the forest on my mountain bike, iPod blaring. I go to the gym, but IMO it's a torture chamber.
I couldn't exercise without my music. If my iPod battery ever gives out, I quit and go home!
But yeah, staying active is like living completely differently, especially if your main hobby involves sittting in front of a computer all day (and night)

shit, I stopped doing sports 12 years ago (29 now)... been playing waterpolo for 10 years, I was more than fit, never ill, always groovy and fit.
I feel urge to start moving my ass again, it's like I didn't hear my body screaming for movement the last years.
Now my musical output is good, but I feel it lacks something... it could be I just need some sport.
thanks for the post, made me really willing to move my ass now.

+1 for capoeira, i need to be pushed when i exercise or i just give up. Though recently i've begun to get on the treadmill and liking the running.beatpoet wrote:I do capoeira, don't have time to do it all the time though.
Also if I find I'm putting a bit of weight I just eat less and I tend to lose it within a week.
Eat less = Lose weight

I need to both watch what i eat and exercise to lose weight. If i let one slip i'm getting my beer belly back...
Listen up, ladies, when you work out regularly, you end up looking this good:cosmosuave wrote:I have been for about 4-5 years 3-5 x's a week... It will be tough for the first while trying to drag your ass out to work out but once you start seeing results you feel guilty if you don't go... I usually work out first thing in the AM since I work afternoons... It is hard to exercise when you feel tired so try doing it in the AM or on your lunch hour with the other's at the gym...

hello hello!!
