Solo/Cue button MIDI
So it HAS definitely gone and it's not just me being stupid...Damn Damn Damn. I'm pretty sure you used to be able to assign to the Pre/Post buttons too and you can't now.
I've been building my own MIDI controller for the past 2 years and while doing that haven't been making any music at all so didn't bother upgrading Live, not even looked at it in fact The controller's almost finished now, I've upgraded finally and find that some functions that I've built into the controller and have placed specifically for and labelled on the front panel, are no longer available, which I'm afraid seems to me to be a bit cack and a tad annoying as this is the one app where a lot of people ARE building their own controllers for it and it takes a lot of time to do it.

holy shit, cool man. that's another part of the forum, you never know how savvy the person you're texting really is. got pics? what's it based on?
if you still have it you can run Live 5/4/3/2/1 no problem.
the seemingly weird nature of the midi assign to the solo button aside maybe you can use a 3rd party app like bidule to resurrect this older feature.

It's based on 3 midibox cores. I've built 2 controllers in the last 2 years - one a big Mackie Control Emulation and the three core one for when out and about. There are pics of both in the featured boxes in the ucapps gallery.....before you ask...yes I have used two buttons for A/B when only one is really needed, there's some jiggery pokery going on with the processing.
I guess I'll have to hook up midiyoke and see if anything is squirted out from Live when the buttons states are changed and then 'hardwire' the assignment into the firmware if there's anything readable.
Tatataratatateee... Here comes the cavalry (sort off)
There IS a workaround thats fairly simple. But it only works on OSX (maybe vista).
On osx, if you go to the system panel and select "keyboard"... You'll find that you can add custom hotkeys to any app.
In this case, you would need a hotkey for "Solo Switches" and "Cue Switches".

Add Live as an application you wish to assign custom hotkeys to from the key-combo in the system panel.
Type the EXACT name of the function in Live and choose a key combo that doesn't yet exist. I went with "shift+alt+cmnd+C" for solo switches.
Use an app like midistroke to send out either messages with 1 knob/button.

Now restart Live. If you did everything correctly, the hotkeys will now be added to the menu:

It may not be the solution you seek, since Ableton made this hard for you.
But it is a solution nonetheless..
Cheers

Your best bet is to go to the bugs forum and report it. Since there currently is a Live 6 beta going, your best chances for getting it fixed is now.nunrgguy wrote:I'm using Vista - I don't know if anything like this is possible on that O/S as I've only been using it for a few weeks now I'll have to have a look.
I had a look in midiOx via midiYoke to see if anthing was sent out by default from those buttons - unfortunately there isn't.
Be sure to point out in which version of Live this worked. Because if you don't, your report could be seen as a feature request. If it worked and now doesn't... its a bug..
Well....
How bloody embarrasing
I've checked in a v2 of live from Remote Audio and found out a demo 4.04 and neither of those have midi control over the Solo/Cue selector or the Pre/Post buttons...I was SO sure it was there before.
I must be going totally doolallyflip crackers.
Many apologies to the Abes as I seem to have invented a feature that was never there...useful as it would be. The only way to get control over them would be via mouse or touchscreen.
I think I'lll have to put in a snivvelling and apologetic feature request...
oops

There's an app out there called auto hotkey that might just work in conjjunction with Bome's however. http://www.autohotkey.com/
