maybe this is obvious, but make sure there arent too many programs that are automatically starting up at login (see "login items" under the User section of Sys. Preferences). those guys can be sneaky.

also turn of the airport if you dont need it!

Especially when we spend so much of the day thinking about getting our widgets turned on.

if you don't hit dashboard after a reboot, the widgets will not load.

don't believe me? reboot, look at activity monitor and search for "dash" almost nothing should come up

then hit F12 or whatever hotkey you have for dash (i reassigned mine so i can use F12 in ableton) and then look at sys activity.

if you aren't using them, turn off bluetooth and airport as well.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I have heard that there is also a way to delete your preferences folder to reset Live and get it to work better. I know how to do this in Windows but not in OSX. Anyone know?

Preferences on OS X are stored as simple (well, sometimes not so simple) regular files (there's no 'registry') in /Users/you/Library/Preferences/... the file you're looking for is com.ableton.live or something similar.

Edit - just checking, it's actually in a folder called 'Ableton' in the above folder.

Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.
