.. It's clear to me that zed only posted to tell people he's not getting Live cause he likes Logic 7 : .
sorry mate....my idea wasnt to start a debate about logic 7 vs live 4 . because I own logic and live I'm in the position to give my opinion . I paid the upgrade to v3 a few months ago and I dont regret it . the thing is that ableton came out with v4 and you need to pay for another upgrade after what....six months??? 8O . I've been playing with the beta version and its lot of fun , but as i said before there is nothing new about it , so even though $129 its not the big deal i feel that i dont need to upgrade after all . I understand there are a lot of people using exclusivly live for sequensing...it may be your case , for those people live 4 is the greatest thing , but there are a lot of others who use live like any other plug in and sequence on logic/cubase/protools...etc and dont really need live's new features . just wanted to say when i heard at first about live 4 i got really x-ied thinking it would bring new revolutionary features......but no. anyway...i made my point and I'm sure there is alot of people thinking the same way who for sure are the ones using one of the big names sequencers .
so dude ...relax , dont take it so personal...live its just a software  .

boy oh boy was I glad that I caught this before your post slipped through
the cracks.

the cracks of your ass that is.....

why do these Jerry Springer rejects keep posting stuff like this , or a better question is how do they even know how to use a computer 8O
sometimes I wish I could just buy some people a girlfriend to keep them
off of the internet.
Turkey Baster, why are you posting stuff like this? Zed's just stating his opinion, which is totally in order. Live 4 is very different compared to Logic 6 and the latter is better in many regards.

And that's just my opinion.

I think what Zed was trying to say:

Live had a niche and was easily at the top of its game. It was stable, rock solid, unique, and served its purpose well. It easily integrated into other software programs without feeling redundant.

With the introduction of Live 4, Ableton are now starting from the bottom and have a long road ahead to work their way up.

I can very well imagine that for the midi people who have been dangling in the midi powerhouses like DP, Logic, Cubase etc ... Live 4 can seem a bit restrictive, even "not up to it" ....

However I think it all comes down how you are working , where you come from ...

Personnally I've always been an audio sample cut/copy/paste artist for who Live was a godsend .

Now for these kind of people the advent of Live 4 opens a whole new box of pandora's possibilities of sonic creation ... For me the way ABleton conceived L4, it's a logical extension of their previous work in audio with the emphasis on Live Production and a way to make the midi paradigm a very valueble tool ...

[ .. and that's said by someone who at first was not so hot on midi in Live 8) ... I was wrong ... ]

I'd like to know what is NOT new about Live 4, don't get me wrong everyone's entitled to an opinion.

Firstly, you can't do much with midi that's not been done before anyway, but show me another program that lets you compose using probability or one that let's you sequence in a manner unlike ALL the other progs out there (same ol shit for 20 years) One that let's you actually PLAY the thing as opposed to scratching your head with a fat manual OR paying a GRADUATE to engineer for you!!!!!!!

I guess people who've done sound engineering courses won't be liking it much.

Sorry, this is my opinion. Live4 isn't perfect, but it lets creative people create, and that's music to my ears, cos I'm a muso.

Cheers

Live is the BOMB period - I agree with my man Martyn - no other program sequences like Live...

I'm from the MPC family and I love the fact you don't have to sequence horizontally - reminds me of vertically sequencing beats in Song Mode on the 1000 plus I dj and love vinyl so it's nice to have a program that makes sampling loops and breaks so easy, quick and fun

F*** the dumb shit - Live blows up - I'm personally in love with the impulse

Live - Reason 2.5 and a ton of records - fugitaboutit!

I agree, I don't understand why people are acting like they don't get it.
the baster could of been a little more polite but frankly if you're happy with Logics midi, and even excited about it then why aren't you spending your time using it instead of bashing a 'beta'...., if you're a Live user and
you've got a paticular midi request then why don't you put it in the request
No offense DJ Zed but you're not saying anything that is relevant to me as
a Live beta User and I don't know how the others could misconstrue your
post as being useful in that regard.

as far as who's posting on the forum, whatever... until ableton makes the forum registered users only or at least a section for registered users only
it doesn't really matter what anybody says, but lets call it what it is shall we. If you don't Like Live4, did I mention its a beta, then cool, but I am a supporter of ableton, and an enthusiastic user of Live who is very happy about the coming version 4. please don't come here to this forum and waste other paying customers resource space for your needs to tell people you won't be upgrading , you don't like it, you like another program
and you'll be upgrading excitedly to that program. this in no way helps us
Live/ Live 4beta/ Live 4 Users, and I find it disrespectful.
thats my opinion.

I'm liking the Impulse too, but I'd love to see it evolve into something along the lines of NI Battery, more sample slots, velocity layering etc.

The more I use ableton's interfaces the more I start to hate working with stuff that tries to look like hardware, it's totally pointless.

Simplicity and ease of use is the holy grail, content over style for a change.

I would love to be able to program realistic drums in the impulse, all it needs is layers/velocities and thats it. when you think about it it's pretty cool the abletons have already indicated that they're gearing up for Live 5
damn I bet most of these things we're asking for will be in it too. it's a pleasure to support them supporting us through their innovative thinking.

I personally think Zed has stayed with the boundaries of relevance. He/She (which one is it?) is stating an opinion about Live. Constructive critsism. Seems like there isn't a better place to do it. I've seen my share of griefers, haters, trolls and flame war soldiers, (hell, I've been one) and Zed ain't. Seems like Turkey is more in those lines.

Regardless, I can see why someone might not want to spend 120 on this upgrade. If they have Logic/Cubase and it actually works, if they have Live 3 and don't like or need MIDI, Have Reason/FL Studio etc and like its sound... I personally have been wanting VSTi support since I threw my 4 month old copy of Cubase 3 in the trash out of frustration, and din't like Logic's dongle policy.

I think once peopl get in their head that "ease of use" is far more important than "bells and whistles", they will see the light.

My 2¢.

WORD UP, Ableton. Nice job.
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.

Yeah man, no disrespect to DJ Zed meant, I personally thought "nothing new" was a tad inaccurate that's all and have always found Logic to be a "brick wall" my creativity. Plenty of people disagree with me though.

well......as i said before I'm a live user and yes it is relevant , thas why I'm posting my opinion ...there is a lot of live users who wont upgrade to 4 . I'm happy with logic and live ...thats why i have both . I dont use live for sequencing because i find it a little fiddly for it , I do use live for time streching and its awesome . when they anounced live 4 i was expecting at least they improve its sequencing tools and windows views . I've used protools and cubase besides logic and i certanly can say that live 4 is basic for sequencing....thats the thing ...ableton with live 4 is going toward a new direction , in this new direction you'll find all the big names in sequencers and live 4 will not be at the top of the game . thats my disapoment , ableton live capabilities with audio are unique and no one can argue that , but when they anounced midi i was expecting something that nobody has ever done with it, something revolutionary like they did with audio .
I'm not trying to offend live users....I AM a live user ....so i expect more from ableton . it seems really stupid that whenever someone criticise live lot of people start geting nasty , a forum is for expresiong ones thoughts ....good or bad we have to take it and if we want to argue lets do it ....but with respect . i said what i dont like about live 4 and all those fools who were disrespectful didnt even point out why i'm wrong ....so if you wanna argue you have to at least know what you talking about . discussion is for adults ...so for those children that open their mouth without even knowing why they are arguing ....just listen and try to learn about music , good manners and respect of opinion...otherwise you'll end up being an arrogant looser

DJ Zed, you might like to check this thread from the wishlist part of the forum,

http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 47541feb2d

I don't think you're gonna see much in the way of truly new midi type stuff anywhere, until something like this becomes a new standard of control.

I'm fully with you regarding frustration with the outmoded midi protocol, it's why I started using live in the first place. Live4 has a flexible method of signal routing now, which is the thing I wanted most. Midi is just an added bonus for me really, I'll continue to use EnergyXT for more complex midi sequencing as I can now use it fluently in Live4 because of the new midi stuff. Like I said, an added bonus.

Cheers

Dear dj zed

It seems that you are a bit confused what to think about REWIRE (usefull / OK / hate-worth).

What could be the reason (no not reason 2.5) for this confusion?

Correct me, but it seems that you work/own the following tools: :Logic, Live, Storm, Reason, Reaktor, FL Studio, Project 5, Cubase.

My advice: Reduce your enviroment a little bit. Maybe Live and Reaktor? And then when it comes to a specific problem and you want to post ask yourself:

- could my problem also be interesting for other users?
- or can I provide Live-users with helpfull information?
- or can I bring some good vibes into this forum?

I know, these question are subjectiv. But most important is:

First THINK then TYPE - please not the other way around.

Thank you.
