I can't drink alcohol at all while making music, my earing gets really fucked up already with the first red wine glass (red wine is the only alcohol I sometimes drink)
grass is my love/hate.
while sometimes being lightly stoned takes you a bit further in creativity, it makes me slack, so I have hard time finishing a song when I got stoned.
When I do mixdown sessions I do not smoke anything until I'm done, then I rewiev my work after a joint.

I know someone who actually stopped smoking pot during rehearsals or gigs because of ableton. he said that otherwise it would be too confusing to him because of the many things he needs to think of while playing with live.

I totally dig smoking pot to produce, but to perform, I'd be totally sober (maybe a beer to loosin' me up)

But yeah, pot helps to stay focused on certain aspects of a track and it also facilitates experimentation.

I've heard it can be fun to write music with some herb, some people probably do it all the time. Maybe even performing too sometimes I bet. They probably even have a couple beers or glasses of wine too I bet.

Interesting the things you hear around here.

I only consume alcool outside my house...so no drinking involved on production..i quitted joints years ago...
and when i perform i drink (a couple of beers) and chainsmoke cigarettes....the only problem is that i cover my stuff(computer/turntables) with that damn ash...
anyway most of the times i can not smoke because i prohibited by law in Italy...

I usually chain smoke during outdoor DJ gigs too. I've found for indoor gigs a good 10 minute+ white label mix works well for a smoke/bar/bathroom break because the crowd generally stays the same on the dance floor or even grows. But there's nothing quite like the "excitement" of being in the middle of a piss and you hear the song glitching (in a bad way). Shit! Shit! Shit!!!

I write to release the voices in my head.

If I get high, they stop.

I can't write if I don't hear the voices.

When I can't write, the voices get louder and louder.

Sometimes I get high because the voices are too loud.

Sometimes I cry when the voices come out.

I feel good when I don't hear the voices.

I feel better when I get the voices out.

I get high from drugs.

I get higher from music.

And the world goes................pop!

That about sums it up.

Someday I'll have my shit together and be able to drop breath freshener and play Live...but right now I am too easily confused....

That is the fucking BEST show. I caught one episode while in Newcastle, UK - guest teaching at the university. We don't get it in Sweden so I had to order the DVDs from Amazon. Can't wait for season 4 to be released. :D :D :D

I can't seem to write, play, or produce until I've had a vinegar and water enema. When I don't have an enema, the voices in my ass stop, and thus I can't create. I need my enema or my music will suffer.

i find that gettin stoned and drinkin helps with gettin the initial ideas down in the session view...
but when your in the arangement view fuckin around with structure and effects and stuff you need to be straight.....cause when ya stoned most things sound good until you listen to it the next day..... 8O
