by the way are there any programmable vsti modules design to send sysex messages?
that could be a solution, at lesat until ableon fixes this, to control external hardware...

Ditto! SysEx runs fine when my AMT8s are in patch mode. Soon as I boot up Live, that's it; no more SysEx communication between my PG-300 and MKS-50. Not to mention Virus paging.

Doesn't seem to be mentioned in the L7 new features list. As someone said in the 128+ controllers thread "Lets see the basics covered first"!

I know the more votes statistically looks better, but I think people posting uninformed comments will just look to the developers like "me too" type statements, which will largely be ignored.
1.) V-Station receives sysex dumps to load K-Station and A-Station presets. This means that Live users using V-Station cannot currently load the extra K-Station and A-Station banks from the Novation website - which is extremely annoying ( well it annoys me at the very least as there are some very intruiging banks on the Novation site that I am dying to check out ). So yes, there are plug-ins that use sysex.

2.) It doesn't look to me like there are "uninformed" comments in this particular thread at all - I doubt that V-Station is the only hardware-modelling synth that can load banks from it's hardware predecessors using sysex - there are probably a whole heap of them.... And I have no issue adding my vote to this thread to bump it up - seems like an informed bump to me - and I seriously hope that such a bump is not ignored by Ableton as that would be a serious oversight imo.

Juno 106 is a key piece of kit, as is sysex.

I hate having to load up DP in rewire just to record Juno trax with my Live projects.

I cannot believe that after all of this time sysex has still not been updated.

Do we need to sign a petition or something?

Seriously!

+1

I thought this was already implemeted in Live several versions ago... To my big surprise I found out today it wasn't! What a dissapointment :(

Playing live gigs with Live - this should be a must!

I'd definitely like to see sysex support in live. I use sysex to back up my Nord Rack patches in Cubase projects but I can't do this in Live :(

Live already uses Sysex, namely for Control Surfaces (like Novation Automap). It sends and receives Sysex to communicate with these devices. There are compiled Python scripts for each device template in one of Live's folders which seem to handle these things. Unfortunately the sources of these scripts are not published by Ableton, else we could program our own templates.

Does anyone know of any workarounds?

Is there maybe a vst out there that live can automate which then translates the info to the appropriate sysex? (That is a great feature of Digital Performer.)

If anyone has any clever ideas I would love to hear them.

Cheers!

Hi Neil,

i see you are working with a Mac,
at OSX you can use Midi Pipe ( http://homepage.mac.com/nicowald/SubtleSoft/ )

it´s not a vst but a nice standalone freeware where you can translate midi-control-changes to sys-ex messages (via the tool "message factory") to automate for example the parameter values of a Juno 106 (works fine here :) )

Palmer,

Thank you so much for turning me on to this program. I had no idea it existed.

You have so made my day.

I built and "External Instrument" for the Juno 106, added a Group, then added another "External Instrument" for the MidiPipe. Fantastic!!!!!

Now I can easily record, see and edit automation and use the Freeze and Flatten feature with total ease.

You have made me so happy.

Thank you!!!

Hi Neil,

Nice that i could help and thanks for the grouping tip to freeze and flatten, I have checked it out after reading your reply and indeed this is very exiting.

So you have made my night 8)

I've been sending and receiving sysex from Live via a pluggo vsti i've made to edit and automate my desktop evolver. I send data over the network, using the udpsend and udpreceive objects, to a small max msp patch which relays the sysex to the relevant midi ports. it seems to work fine.
since the vsti is talking to the (wireless) network, i can also control all the parameters on my evolver remotely from my laptop (running Live + the vsti) anywhere around the house, the MAX dongle running on my main MIDI'd up machine.
