My new album is finally out :-) Done completely with Live 6

My new album, Distant Horizon, has finally cleared on all the digital stores. I'm well chuffed, taken all year to get this puppy done.

It's my usual dark cimematic affair utilizing lots of processed circuit bent toys for a real dark twist. Very beaty and lots of melody...

It's available from iTunes, eMusic, Napster, Amazon.com MP3 and within the next week the CD will be available from CDBaby.

If anyone gets a chance to check it out, I'd love to hear some comments, my previous album, Mechanical, got some excellent reviews :D

All done using Ableton Live 6, a host of vst synths and effects, lots of old circuit bent toys and a Korg ER-1.

Cool stuff, definitely has some licensing potential AFAICT. You should check out pump audio if you haven't submitted already, their licensing deal is pretty straightforward and equitable (or at least it has been so far- Getty images just bought them, so we'll see what happens.. )

Yeah lots, it's worth more to me as a source of hilarity when I tell my friends what shows I've had music on (Oprah, Gastineau Girls, and other crappy reality TV shows) than for the money, although last quarter I made over $350 = more than my gigs and CD sales for the entire year.

Ultimately it's about constantly taking all that cutting room garbage and polishing it up a bit (I'm no mastering guru, but I can tweak and use presets to get a decent mix), and sending them everything you can. Ironically the stuff that I put hours into barely ever gets used, while old mixes from five years ago, weird fx outtakes, ambient abstract stuff seems to be in demand. I guess the name of the game is uniqueness+diversity. Or maybe it's just that my "accessible" stuff doesn't sound that way to TV editors ;)

Reminds me I haven't sent anything since last year and I have a ton of random sound files from logic and live experiments. Gotta put together another CD for them. Actually I think they have an upload feature now, although that may only be for artists who have already had a CD accepted.

Overall I would say considering how many dead ends and impossible odds there are in the music biz, this is probably worth the minimal effort of filling out the forms and submitting. Let me know what your take is if you end up doing it.

I really liked Helter Skelter.

I'm curious to find out if you feel it is worth putting the music up on iTunes? How much potential is there to make a couple extra bucks by putting this style of music out there? I write in a similar vein, but always felt like I might be wasting my time with iTunes.

Just curious.

Good luck,

iTunes has actually been my most profitable online store. Its made way more than any other. iTunes US being the highest and UK 2nd. This is for my 1st album, Mechanical. Too soon to know for the new album.

I will never get rich out of doing this, but sales have been steady and rising and it is great fun to do.

CD sales havn't been amazing but ive managed to shift over 50 of mechanical, but I mainly do cd's for sending out to press, so any additional sales for those is a bonus. It seems for independent music, digital is the way to go. shame as I still prefer having a nice shiny shrink wrapped cd.
