Remote sl without automao
Remote sl without automao
Hi,
Like the title said, i want to use my remote sl controller without the automap function (in live situations)
I managed to link the knobs and faders to knobs and faders in live and vsts, but i dont get any visual feedback on the sl
How do i do this? or maybe this is not possible?
Thanks
Jan

Do you mean in live's midi preferences?Tone Deft wrote:set the REMOTE OUT for the device, just like you have REMOTE IN set now.
i tried setting in& out to channel 1, 2 or 3, but none of them gets me visual feedback on the remote sl.
anyways, what tempate should i use for this? or should i create an empty one in the editor?
thanks

W/newest drivers on my sl this is how I get it to work:
- turn on sl and ableton
- automap comes on automatically
- quit automap
- midi prefs in ableton: ch2 in and out for sl and none for 1 and 3 (in my setup at least)
- go to template 38 or 40 which is the ableton template (can't remember - I'm at work)
- go into play mode and it should work
Hope this helps.
I wish I could get the sl to work with traktor though - if someone is having success there and could answer a couple questions please pm me.
Looks like the automap etc is getting a new update in Feb too.
Cheers!

Welcome to SL Hell.
I have bitched about this ever since I found out that the SL CANNOT receive midi feedback from the host without using the Automap feature.
Look for some of my earlier posts on this. I posted a reply from Novation that specifically states this. They've also modified some of their documentation to state this now as well.
It really, really, really sucks.

Nah, it's not that bad. OK, so you have to program them in yourself. But you can have multiple "templates" that you switch between, and the LCDs will update when you do.hrmnk wrote:so this means, the lcds are of no use when you dont use automap ( i mean, if you would write the control names above a know it would be the same)

Actually, yeah it is that bad. The LCD's do not update when you do not use Automap.
From Novation : "Thanks for the email. Automap was designed so that there are 2 way communications between the host and the SL. Therefore if you change a parameter on the SL, it communicates to the host and updates in Live, then feeds it back to the SL and updates in the SL. In your situation, when Automap is not used, there is only a one way communication between the host and SL, that is from the SL to the Live, therefore the SL will simply not respond to Live by design."
