using the original samples leads to problems with the different live versions (see above)

so just make a new samplepack and include anything. i'm tired of the demo samples anyway and i guess everyone is.

this way it doesn't matter which live version you've got, too.

i could provide webspace for downloading purposes as well. email me if needed.

btw, we'll need judges, don't we?
yup.

I am up for it!

But it should be only using the samples that you provide and live fx. Otherwise is like doing another song.

We could make a package of samples, although i do not see that as being different from using abletons presets.
For those that not have the samples.... download them from this site? Anybody tested sending asl-files made with preset content? Good old e-mail would get this thing rolling....
i would prefer to do the whole thing over email, than on this public forum. i don't want just anybody to steal all my earth-shattering techniques! ;)

and again, i think it should be painseeker's previously-unavailable-to-all-of-us samples. personally i've already made songs with the included ableton sounds and i'd like a new set of sounds for a new project.

it's painseeker's idea, let's use his sounds!

and as far as judges go, that presumes that there will be a "winner". do we really want that? in any case, we can worry about the judging later, while we are working on the stuff.

Maybe this will get us started.
I was looking for a free cross platform file sharing app...
And found something that looks cool.
It's all encrypted so we should be safe. loads of options.
registerd in a minute, verification included.
Just add my name to your contact list " Hoffman2k "
We can start everything from there.
You also can post it here, but keep in mind that anybody kan read it. If you want to keep it secure, just add me and i
will pass along user names as they come by.

off course you can do what you want, this is just to get the ball rolling.
It's a free instant messaging app with file sharing and security. check out the site, it looks like something we could use for sharing painseeker's samples

http://www.bitwisecommunications.com/comm/

BitWise is the first encrypted, direct-connect instant messenger offering the same features on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. No ads or spyware, but loaded with features: fast file sharing, "tabbed" interface, automatic encryption of messages and files, whiteboards, XML and plaintext logging, invisibility, offline messaging and more. You owe it to yourself to protect and secure your instant messages like you protect and secure the rest of your PC.

I'm in, but have not upgraded to version 4. Will we have two seperate catagories, for three and four users?

Also, I agree with using only samples provided by painseeker and no third party effects, that way the ableton files will be compatable on everyones system.

yea at first i wanted to be able to use 3rd party FX, but now i'm liking the idea of sharing the .als's and making them all compatible.

Live 3 users can use the Live 4 demo to look at Live 4 .als's from other users.

If anything it will be a nice look for everyone into how everyone else works.

i could provide up to a gig of ftp space, at least for the first round. it might be simpler than p2p.

I fired off my email - When do we start, and can we get a clear list of the "rules" and "What to do when you've finished your track" ???

I've not yet recieved my Live 4 box so I don't have the samples that come with it - I only have my Live 3 samples. I don't know what the difference between them is. 8O

Here's an IDEA ! :)

How many are joining?? How about we all contribute two samples each - stipulation being that one sample must be a drumshot and another sample can be any kind of loop?? The loop could be up to four bars long.

What do you think? This way we'll have quite a good diversity of samples and we'll have a bit more of a challenge trying to be innovative.

Amb's idea of everyone contributing two samples is groovy. This sounds interesting.

Lots of brilliant ideas! :D

Post by painseeker » Sun Aug 15, 2004 7:51 am

Hi everyone!

Remember to mail me! I've only got 4 mails this far

Super idea with everyone providing 2 samples each! Brilliant! The only down side I see, is when 20 people send 20 kick drums, and 20 strings. Although challenging, I'd like to see all samples being VERY different. If I make the first samplepack, I can guarantee difference :) This time I'll make a samplepack. Next time, we can add a couple of samples each.

As I said before, you send me a mail ( [email protected] - Please write " Live contest" or similar in the subject ) , and I'll mail you the details ( where to download the samples, and a litte info about "when and what".

Someone was mentioning judges. I personally dont see this as an actual contest, but we could make a poll on the forum for the tracks later, if needed. I personally dont care who wins, as long as we ll have a good time, and learn new techniques.

If someone could provide bandwidth, they'd be very appreciated. The samplepack will only be some megs, so no need for gigs of storage. There might be some "heavy" traffic on the server, so I hope that wont be a problem. Otherwise I might be able to serve some storage myself, but if you got storage, please mail me the ftp details.

I think that we can start the challenge this evening (GMT), and let the challenge go until wednesday 31st of august, midnight GMT. But again. I'll send all the details in a mail.

Regarding different Live versions. People are free to use what ever Live version they choose to. ( I know Live 4 users have a small advantage, but that's life :) ) Live 3.x users can get the Live 4 demo, and see how the different tracks are made. Later we can maybe make a Live 3 and 4 challenge.

Someone suggested that we keep our work "secret" from others. I personally dont care, but if there's a majority for that suggetions, then we'll be a secret sociaty :D

From 7 PM CET, I'll be online. You can either contact me via mail, or msn ( [email protected] ) or icq ( 5229276 )
Wintendo / Live 4 / Audiophile2496 / Edirol PCR-30 and a shitload of samples
