I would like to see ableton grow to become the best most famous music production device in the whole world.
but I can't stand max... its a pain in the ass just to load a vst
Load up an object called VST~ and send the message "open".
What were they thinking?

Maybe a bitch to digest - but perhaps the inspiration went Live->Max rather than Max->Live.

I'm kinda thrilled about the looks of Max 5, but I'm certainly hoping for "better way of communicating between Max and Live in the future". Quoting a bold, german, zebra cap wearing Live user/creator I "ran" into in Copenhagen a few weeks back.

what? it's not like max is a daw! using vst's within max kind of defeats its purpose, that is making your own effects. i love max. i'm constanly using it to make my own effects, synths and countless patches to control live, either systematically or randomly. i'm already benefitting from an "unofficial collaboration" between the two programs using rewire and the virtual midi outs from max. i already love that, and can't wait to see what an official collaboration can offer.j2j wrote:I am not interested in max.

OSC! OSC! OSC!
there's talk of a Live looper where the first loop sets the length for all the others. this could be done if Live sent all it's parameters on OSC. you wouldn't even need to see the max window, it would read stuff from Live then set other parameters in Live.
likewise users could make a max GUI to replace the Live GUI and you never have to see Live, only max.
same thing with beat slicing, which we have.
and countless other tools, not to mention video interaction.
there's no word on it, maybe Live 7 was the core geekteam going over the audio engine, maybe now they're looking at the control code to see how/where/why they can tack on OSC implementation and meet max/msp halfway.
you might hate max, but you'll LOVE some of the shit users could make and share with you. there's no question max is a bitch to work with, it's all about practice, the tutorials and ripping off help file examples. I'm glad I have it as a tool but I'm not about to replace Live with it.

We're a month and a half away from the one year anniversary of the announcement.
Doesn't that mean we deserve a hint from someone? Musikmesse better not come and go this year without info.
It's safe to guess it will benefit non-traditional uses and possibly live performance, right? Couldn't anyone at Ableton say anything, however vague?
