I have much respect for vinyl DJs and I know some people prefer the feel of vinyl but I would really be disappointed if Ableton put resources into this backwards thinking technology. The forward thinking DJs, instead of whining about kids today and bullying future DJs into using vinyl or spending $1,200 on a CD deck, embrace the new technology and see the loss of having to beatmatch or crate dive as opening a whole new world of creativity and possibilities.

I agree beatmatching is fun and in some way makes you feel like you are in more control, and I dunno, actually doing something..but I'm just saying some people are extremely scared and upset when you take this out of the equation. Which will happen.

What's so great about Live to me is that you can work in so many ways - adding this support seems like a very natural extension of what Live is all about.

Its not about whining that vinyl is not longer king or beatmatching is a lost art. I don't really care anymore what techniques others use.

I see it like this : a jog dial, which could be a timecode vinyl or could be a CDJ type wheel. This dial could automap to whatever clip was in focus or could be locked to a specific track. It would do exactly what nudging, scratching, or scrubbing does with a normal record or CD player - moving at faster than playback speed through the track. The key for this to be musically useful is for it to be sensitive enough to respond to very small and rapid manipulations (scratches). I don't know if that's too much to ask of midi.

Actually this is probably almost possible today using the 'nudge' function of clips with a quantization set to zero. I haven't got around to testing it out, but it would seem to me that the major problem would be having to constantly adjust the quantization to zero and then set it back to one bar (where I usually play).

This would just make Live that much more live for me as I could make small and large adjustments in the playback position, as well as scratching, in a very intuitive and instrument-like manner.

+1.

It's all about manipulation of clips for me. If I could drag a clip into a VST/Ableton effect and scratch it, I'd be a happy camper.

With Deckadance now available as a VST, at least we know the technology is out there. The only problem I can see is, Live only lets you use a single sound card. I currently have an MOTU Ultralite for Ableton Live, and a U46DJ for Mixvibes (timecode vinyl software).

I wish I could use Deckadance as a VST in Live with the U46DJ ('cos I don't have the ins 'n outs available on the Ultralite) - but Live won't allow it. :x

c'mon Nathan, let's be cool. we don't know each other, chances are we'd have a geekily fun time hanging out.

do you want me to retort in a nice or mean way? I apologize for coming off strong the other day. it's just the internet.

your choice. I have my mean spirited reply ready. I'll give you a few minutes.

FWIW I have a very good life, I'm thankful.

Now after dreaming a lot and repeating the same on the forum lol i can confirm now understadn the Mr patch idea !!!!!, iI love to see some system where i can scratch clips, without loose the sincro with ableton.
Something where you cna select position, can scracth, but when vinyl play at 33rpm, or 45rpm, clip back to sincro with warp, if warp present in the clip : )

Lol i love to see that !!!!
