How do you chop samples in live or is st even possible

I've been working for days trying various ways to chop and trigger samples with Live 6.I'm looking for a way that's fairly convenient and effeceint. Also,does anyone have any advice into the easiest and/or best way of chopping samples outside of Live, via mpc or keyboard or other software. any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

In Live, the easiest way is to drag the samples into Arrange view, expand the track, then highlight the portion you want and hit CTRL+E (CMD+E on a Mac). Then you can right click on it, and choose "Crop Sample".

tarekith's suggestion is pretty much the most effective way to chop up your sounds as you want.

Also, if you decide to get Live 7, there's a built in slicing tool which is pretty handy, especially for beats.

Ok, so I got that figured out already. I was using impulse to trigger a sample but now it's not letting me switch out the drum sample with a song clip. I'm wanting to use Live sort of as an mpc, I guess my real trouble is figuring out a reliable way to trigger samples, multiple samples of a song.

For chopping beats in Live 6, check out the movie Creating Beats here:

I started on an MPC, but this way is a lot easier.

check out simpler or sampler for this

Install a keystroke converter (iKey, Autohotkey) and let the first Function keys trigger grid on/off, split and consolidate. Its now easy to quickly trigger those functions with your left index finger.
