A Jamie Lidell remix

Post by Angstrom » Sat Mar 29, 2008 1:59 am

he's got a remix 'competition' going on at the moment
he only sends you the vocals with bugger all else.

My Jamie Lidell Remix

it's at the top of the list. Quite obvious.
Oh, it's a total "Session drums" workout for all you Live-heads.

there's a video version too!

thanks,
:)

Sometimes I think that all the time I spent learning how to program drums like that might have been better spent actually drumming. On drums.
Ah well. Same outcome .. it just looks a lot more boring when I type them in.

That remix is awesome. I've got to agree that the drums kick ass. Very nice.

I'm excited to hear Jamie's new album.

Thanks,
it's a synth I made myself which is never quite finished !
It remains in "ugly mode" until I finally settle on the functionality.

urgh... I took one look at the "left" + "right" mp3s ... then I stopped.

Why can't people at least u/l wav or aiff? come on, it's 2008...

Damn fine drums!
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

Looks fine to me ;-)
and sounds just perfect. In fact, it's the sound I had in mine before I decided to play the B-line on my Fender Jazz Bass.

I have done a video for my remix.

not sure how long the copyright police will allow it to be there for though.
Seconds probably

thanks,

the technique is mainly perseverance

and session drums.
I made an 'old' sounding kit with the multi-mic Session drums, knocked up a 4 bar loop in session by copying the swing off an old drum loop and then when it came to do this mix I used that liveclip as a basis to expand upon. I simply did the swing by ear BTW, by moving the hits using ctrl and drag to get them off the grid.

I'm not actually sure that any of the original 4 bars survived, but that's sort of how I got the shuffle on.
When I make the larger drum sections I tend to program everything in Arrangement and play the track and it sort of becomes apparent to me what the imaginary drummer in my head wants to happen at each particular point, so I go into the pattern in arrange and slip a ghost hit in , or a quick flam - just to make it a little less robotic.
Nothing magical.
