I thought it was a Virus or Nord? IMO JP8000 is a step down from the Virus or Nord. it'll be fine for the Tiesto stuff you do. I shopped for one of these years ago and preferred Waldorf stuff in that price range.

as for the price, does it matter? too late to ask now.
i'm still bidding on the Virus Classic and the Nord :)
I'm not too up on the JP8000 - is it the keyboard version of the JP 8080? I think I recall the JP 8080 on the D.Ramirez masterclass in Futuremusic - it sounded great IIRC.

If the JP8000 is trance defined, then you should maybe focus on a Nord to complement the sound?

In 1998, Roland released a 6U,19" rack version of JP-8000 called the JP-8080. The JP-8080 combined the analog modeling sound engine of the JP-8000 with additional features such as an internal vocoder. Three times the amount of Patches and performances and an additional Noise waveform was available on Osc 2, which although most patches are compatible between the rack and the JP-8000, some were specifically designed for the rack only version. Also included on the JP-8080 was a distortion effect.
So basically the same :)

I guess you're right about the Nord to completement. I was just notified that the seller of the Virus Classic would not ship to denmark because it was too much of a hazzle.

But i won't add up on the nords for now, i guess i'll have enough in learning 1 synth at a time :)

I just acquired one for free, sort of. My friend has fallen in love with a Japanese girl and dropped everything (including his synths at my house) and moved to Japan. Sad to see a friend go, but who need friends when you've got new synths to play!

It's Japan's way of getting back at us for WWII. It's a slow process but it's working.

310£=611$ :)

Its not for the rack mount but the keyboard version.

The reason i write in pound is because i buy from the British eBay (and of course have to pay shipment to denmark which is probably quite expensive)

The pound is also cheap these days.

It's funny that people who bid the most, say they have won something.

Good luck with your new purchase fool.

By the way, I just won a double pass to the 'We Love Sounds' festival
in Melbourne next weekend. I'm very happy. Gotta get me a good baby sitter.

actually Trance is gonna come back bigtime in the next year or so i reckon, progressive music has already started to rise again!

but before trance has its day again, techno will be king.

Because analog hardware sounds better to some of us, it's subjective, but I would never trade up a moog for a soft synth, it's just not the same mousing around on a screen, though soft synths like Absynth and Zebra have their own sound.

huh?

Ebay call it winning.

"Congratulations on winning this item! The next step is to pay the seller."
"You won this item on eBay: ROLAND JP8000 SYNTHESISER"

even wikipedia:
"Such auctions can be vulnerable to collusion: Two or more bidders act together to win the auction"

It is called winning an auction :)
progressive music has already started to rise again!
This is pretty clear in Denmark. There are more and more things coming up, even the sound in the clubs are changing. I just hope house will follow too,

Well, the JP8000 is not a real analog. On the other hand, neither are a nord or a virus. And the list of users @ wikipedia speaks for itself hehe
But you're right about the knobs. This thing got a ton of parameters available without any menu diving or using a mouse at all. Its just all there, ready to be tweaked.

As you said, Absynth, Zebra plus you forgot Reaktor, Massive and FM 8 have their own sound which I have yet to hear anything like in hardware. Sure it's subjective, but I have played around with a real moog and a software equivalent. To my ears they were both great and virtually identical in sound. However, if I had to choose, I would go for software everytime for convenience, portability and for less hassle. Plus my principles on what would be more environmentally friendly influence my choice too. Less power points and less energy to use to run software compared to hardware. As far as "mousing around the screen" goes, as you no doubt already know, a controller of some sort would solve that problem. Almost all the hardware I have owned has been sold with no regrets. The only hardware synth I now own is a Korg Triton and the only reason I am keeping it is because the second hand price these days is too low compared to what I paid for it.

Just my opinion.

But unless the controller is custom made for a particular softsynth (like that korg ms-20 thingy) it's just not as fun. A generic grid of knobs simply isn't as nice as the front panel of (for instance) a JP-8000.
