Is Akai MPD32 compatible with a mixer?

Post by chrisp131 » Mon Jul 14, 2008 7:19 am

I'm a DJ who wants to incorporate sound effects/samples into my live set, was wondering if the mpd32 is good enough to do this, and is it compatible with any mixer?

thanks in advance

What do you mean compatible with a mixer?
The mpd is a midi controler, yes you can use it to trigger samples, loops,to control effects.

The MPD32 is not a sampler - it is a MIDI controller. If you want a sample-based unit that's not a laptop, anything like the MPC-series might see you right.

Failing that, just buy a laptop!

The mpd makes no sound whatsoever of its own, it only controls software (and midi hardware). What you want is probably something more like a mpc500.

yeh, u want an mpc 500/1000, a 500 is probably more suitable. however the mpc range r also sequencers and might also not be the right thing as they are definitely not suitable fx units. my best recomendation would be an sp-404 or sp-303. much more suitable for a dj environment, and they hav fantastic fx onboard.
