why does such good music get ignored in favour of pop crap?

yeah you are right, but there is more to it than that.
the smugness and false sincerity of the stars. the jumped up egos and undeserved sense of self importance.
if you don't play an instrument, make the beat or write your own lyrics then fuck you! if you are taught your dance moves and told how to sing you song then fuck you. if you walk around like you are the shit while real artists struggle then fuck you.
at least phil collins wrote his shit.

Why attack and be so bitter and hostile about others? They have no bearing or influence on the music you make.
Make the music you're passionate about. Listen to the music you love.
It doesn't really matter what others do. If you have to be so judgmental, judge yourself against yourself. You'll then be the best you can be.

yeah i agree about judging yourself. if anything i tend to over criticise my music. but i'm passionate about real artists getting what they deserve and against injustice. that is why i am writing the song.
i am not going columbine or anything but it's a valid point. i'm surprised not one person agrees. i'm not saying line them up and shoot them but i sometimes get pissed off with it.

Real artists struggle. To live a creative life, and not one of conformity and routine habit is a struggle. That artist, if given recognition, fame etc, would then have to struggle with the binding effects of that fame.silverlulu wrote:if you walk around like you are the shit while real artists struggle then fuck you.
I've had a small measure of social recognition (not in the music field) with the face in the news, tv, radio, on the newspaper and then a bunch of people form an opinion of who you are, want a piece of you, love you and hate you based on nothing but their own mental process and a social persona is there which is not you, and then it is necessary to interact with all of that. Its bullshit. To be anonymous is great. Be nobody, then nobody is concerned with you and you are free to do/be whatever you want/yourself.

oh yeah i definitely agree with you. i agree with most of what the people on here are saying. but i am not saying, "i hate these famous people, i want to be famous."
i am just irritated by the industry and the so called stars which think they are saying something. i mean look at 50 cent. what a smug fuck. i don't sit their all day hating on him as that is futile, but i hate the way that to break in to the industry it is so hard to be successful without bowing to the superficiality of the industry.
it seems to be full of people who either have nothing to say but went on a quest for fame. or people who had something to say and then taylored it for the masses to be successful and so diluted their message.

Because it's fun, takes zero energy, and is more life affirming than being sweet?
Haven't you moved and given up music yet? What are you still doing here? Hey, can morerecords have your place in London? The sooner we ship that nincomepoop out of here the better.

don't kid yourself. you were 13 once and listened to some total crap bands.silverlulu wrote:oh yeah i definitely agree with you. i agree with most of what the people on here are saying. but i am not saying, "i hate these famous people, i want to be famous."

I'd bet you and your pals back in the day would "Stop. Collaborate and listen. Ice is back with a brand new edition..."

haha well i know pretty much every lyric to that song so yes i get where you are coming from... incidentally it's "Ice is back with a brand new invention", i should know i have rapped it shit loads!Tone Deft wrote:don't kid yourself. you were 13 once and listened to some total crap bands.silverlulu wrote:oh yeah i definitely agree with you. i agree with most of what the people on here are saying. but i am not saying, "i hate these famous people, i want to be famous."

but it doesn't change the fact that it's shit music for kids. credible artists still make it mainstream... daft punk for example but the saturation of shit for kids is what gets me.
it's hard, i agree with you guys as i have stated but i am finding it hard getting my point across.
if it doesn't piss you off that the industry is like this then i guess that's where the convo starts and ends. it just pisses me off. maybe i should get over it, but i'm sure many struggling artists feel the same way. i was hoping to tap in to that and get some inspiration for my track.
you're all too damn philosophical ya cunts!

ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK...!!!
Hey lulu. I am sure that at some point in your life you concluded that much, if not all of your human existence can be compared to a game. There are games within games also, or systems if you will. By attempting to understand the rules of engagement with the 'games' you are involved in you have a better chance or winning (simply put). The thing you have a choice about is which battles you can pick to fight, or which games you are going to play. You have a choice. I find it strange that you would get pissed off with an industry that you appear to only just be getting involved with. On top of that, that you are even trying to write a song that gives the finger before you've even got going.
Its also not about getting over it, but looking past it. Sorry for adding more philosophical baggage to this, but I am sure there are plenty of other times in your life that you 'disengage' in order to do what ever it is you do (I don't mean taking drugs either). Some of those people who supposedly 'sell out' have learned this skill and know full well its all a show. Others unfortunately believe too deeply in their fantasy life. You should stop wasting energy on poking holes in the things you don't like. Yes, there might be an audience for you at some stage, but how long and for what ultimate purpose?... and if you know the answer to these questions, then is writing yet another version of 'fuck the system controlling mother fuckers' the best course of action?
In the end you want to fill your bank account with $$$$$$$. You want to do that with your writing ( attached to some music of course). Do you know the rules of engagement? Play or don't play. At some point you have to get philosophical, either about attacking your boggy men or about your own survival.

yes once again i agree with you.
but also it's a point worth saying and i am saying it regardless. i feel it and i am doing it. not everything i write is anti-establishment. in fact these 2 i am working on seem to be, but my writing is progressing and i am almost finished with them.
when they are done i will be exorcised, there is nothing worse than leaving something unfinished to fester. i just wanted some help in the way of people telling me what they didn't like about it.
however, as i have constantly been rebutted i have had to redefine what the song is saying and form a clearer view so this has been helpful.

Like I said, while you're looking down on the Top 40 artists/listeners there's some PureData addict with an Arduino down his pants who's discovered a way to control an interactive composition with his testicles and who is looking right over his glasses at the top of your quasi-cultured head.
Unsound Designer
i have come to realize over the years that music simply isn't the same experience for everyone. i think many people don't get enough out of what they hear on the radio to either enjoy good shit when they hear it (at a club or classical concert for example) or they are never prompted to dig for new sounds and break away from mainstream artists (which can be good from time to time, but generally it's a dismal world in some areas (like the creed/nickleback days)).

i just wanted to say thank you to everyone that has posted. there has been some really constructive comments and although i didn't want to hear them, i needed to hear them.
the song i am writing is not going to be whiny and angry. i am approaching it from a better angle and your comments have played a big part in giving me a greater perspective so i appreciate it.
