Sure they can still have it, but that means sweat and blood. Voting in Obama will not mean the citizens of the US will have a government by and for the people.

I do not argue that voting is meaningless, but it is only 1 step. Any individual step on a long journey is not meaningless in the context of the journey. However, if you only take one step, there is no journey.

The US has a history of people fighting for and winning rights that today are taken for granted. People of character and substance shed blood and died for the right to organize unions, a 40 hour workweek, overtime pay, fair wages, the right to not be fired for no reason, health care, worker safety. People fought for the right to speak freely, to assemble freely, the right to a lawyer and to face ones accuser, the right to a speedy trial, and a trial by a jury of ones peers.

Now we are in a time where these rights are eroding before our eyes. People have forgotten their history, and seemingly their backbone.

Obama seems to have some conscience, but no matter what good intentions he might have, he will not be able to accomplish much unless there are a lot of people willing to put their ass on the line, to risk their job, shed some blood, take some lumps.

My impression is that too many people hope that change will come without them having to roll their sleeves up and get dirty. It is the power of a determined citizenry that can oppose runaway corporate power and greed, not a single man sitting in the White House.

SO yes, please vote, and please do more than that!

IMO this is EXACTLY why Obama needs to get in - he is exactly the kind of person who could inspire people to action - when was the last time a president had that kind of charisma and emotive oratory? they all try but he actually succeeds.

It's people like that that get nations moving

+1 to deva.

Yeah, this one matters a lot. There's no way anybody would not vote and then admit it if Obama won. How can anyone not be a part of that?

did you check that link? quite a good read
....The Web, in its infinite iterations, is eroding all 20th-century media.

The Obama campaign has long been on board those digital locomotives. Its ability to tell its story under the radar of the mainstream press in part accounts for why the Obama surge has been so often underestimated. Even now we’re uncertain of its size. The extraordinary TV viewership for Obama on Thursday night, larger than the Olympics opening ceremony, this year’s Oscars or any “American Idol” finale, may only be a count of the horses. The Obama campaign’s full reach online — for viewers as well as fund-raising and organizational networking — remains unknown.

just to have a President with a rudimentary grasp of the English language would be great, one that acknowledges the press, reads newspapers, doesn't do shit like massage the shoulders of the German Chancellor, just someone with some manners and a little fucking humility will be outstanding.

Obama just has to be a good President to shine after 8 years of Bush.

the only thing better would be if Al Qaeda could catch Bush alive, omfg I'd buy that DVD. see George, this is why waterboarding sucks. what's that? I can't hear you over 20 kilowatts of Meshuggah.

A president who can do email and use the internet would be a plus, too. how about a constitutional amendment requiring 12y/o computer competency?

I still don't think he had the same effect that Obama seems to be having

admit it b0unce - like everyone else in the world, you're watching this with great interest!

Certainly the most interesting election in my lifetime

so the GOP calling off the Convention, or postponing the first day.

biggest soccer dive ever?

keep the Palin myth alive longer before she has to put more of herself out there. right now she's getting programmed by her handlers. as of now the buzz around her is pretty positive, why spoil it?

saw some Fox footage where they cut to a helicopter shot, announcing 'we have news that a Critical Mass protest is happening at the Convention site.' the helicopter panned around, no critical mass in site, barely a car let alone a bike. failarious.
