I'd like to hear a little more about the limitation you are experiencing. Not that I am dismissing anything you say, just the opposite actually.
For example, what would you like to be able to do with the eq, dynamics, reverb, and limiter, that you feel you can not do?
How do you feel limited? What other software fx, besides waves, do you feel do not have these limits?
Thanks Mate
the one specific limitation I was referring to was on the EQ - each parametric EQ is limited to a certain band
you know how on the Ableton EQ8 anyone of the 8 EQs can be set to any frequency - on the Sonnox EQ they are split into Lo, Lo-mid, mid...etc
like it is on a real console
I wouldn't mind on a real console where I could physically turn the dial, but using a mouse I did find it irritating - it just sometimes means back tracking (or using another EQ of course, which is no big deal really, but seems a little pointless - software should go beyond physical limitations IMO)
but I really must stress it is a personal preference thing - I don't want to rubbish them as they are obviously very good, I would just recommend trying them before you buy as they aren't cheap and workflow can be every bit as important
as for others, as I own the Waves I can't give you much adivce there as I've kind of stuck with them
but as EQ and Compression goes I think Ableton has really stepped up a notch there and often I don't even bother loading up Waves as I really do like them - the compressor more so, the gain increase with the Q increase on EQ8 can be annoying if you just want a straight surgical lopass or hi pass, but on other things the EQ8 is often more than adequate - agin it depends what you're doing
I dont like waves as a company, but I do like their plug-ins, and they provide outstanding manuals too which really are educational
all of this stuff is highly subjective so the number one point is - try it for yourself!
