APC40 for the Studio
Regarding using the mouse:
I'm pretty sure that you can use Charlie Robert's Control Aid to use any midi interface to navigate the Live browser, with some limitations of course.
I'm willing to bet that with M4L, we'll be able to hack the APC40 and otehr Live-native controllers to go into a "browser mode" for even more integrated browser navigation.
So I guess the answer is "M4L"

using control aid to do keystrokes with midi goes like this in my experience.steve-o wrote:Regarding using the mouse:

1) spend about an hour trying to figure out how to set it up so that you can fully navigate the browser, since most of us don't know all the key combination's we'll need to begin with
2) get it all figured out and start tapping away, fully browsing with your midi controller and then you realize "I'm still looking at the computer to do this, and it's slower than a mouse"
3) realize that using a mouse makes way more sense
thats my experience anyway
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.
Re: midi?
Yeah, surprised about that. This lack of inter-connectivity limits its use as an all-in-one controller. Can't control hardware. Can't add a BCR (not enough knobs!) without a USB hub.DJChrisPaul wrote:No midi out! would be nice to connect the BCR2000/BCF2000

not quite the 16 x 16, but the other functions you mentioned... and he has a step sequencer in beta...
You could use a padKontrol, and
NativeKontrol ...

Just want to know what my options are - although the APC40 is an amazing start!
Listening to the wording in the APC-40 video - it suggests that the APC-40 is just the first, or at least working with AKAI isnt an exclusive thing.
I thought they had worked with Vestax on the VCM-600 as well. The fact that more is being made of the APC-40 is probably to do with the whole Live 8 promo thing and the apparently deeper control integration whereas the VCM-600 pre-dates Live 8.
Nothing to see here - move along!

Shheeeeeeeeeaaattttt!!!
This is what I´m talking about and more than I expected. Very interesting!
Full control without touching a keyboard or mouse. I guess we´ll have to
wait for a 16x8 and 16x16 version when Akai gets the kickback from the 40´s.
Thanks BeatPsychic

Re: APC40 for the Studio
In the studio, I've been using, 2 trigger fingers and a Bitstream3x on mackie control to give me the 8 channel APC type functionality, but that means I have to have a Live template configured so it's always 4 audio, 4 midi to start. the apc will give the freedom to chop & change channels as I please and give scene triggers and 5 rows to trigger from, I previously only had 3+stop. The most important is a dedicated scene trigger. I could never give up a channel for that before. It's so easy to compose on a full bank of pads, i've used a monome on a full 8x8 in Live at times and it's what Live is made for. It's only when you're jamming on pads in Live that you realise what this program was actually built for. The ACP is the perfect studio tool
Re: APC40 for the Studio
to my mind,
i was wondering the last days, if we need the APC 40 at all,
because the features we need, seem to be implemented in Live 8,
so did not we only have to wait,
´till someone is adjusting all features + stuff to the Akai Mpd 32 or the Padkontrol ?
Don´t get me wrong, i have some serious gearlust,
but i am not sure if i should order this thing, already having a MPD 32 at home.
cheers

I mean - i can see lots of different uses for apc & mpc coexisting in setup.
