Hi,

if it sounds good - it is good. Isn't that benchmarking a bit, well, superfluous? Check some of http://www.ee.oulu.fi/%7Esakoivik/100minutes.html tracks. It''s not the speed - it's the creativity, no?

quite frequently the speed (or, headroom) breeds creativity.

1) 32% (peak value, average 28%)
2) Desktop, Own Build DAW
3) XP Pro +l SP2
4) Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz
5) 512 MB RAM (Corsair DDR SDRAM [PC3200])
6) SBLive using KX drivers - KX ASIO
7) 7200 rpm (200GB S-ATA) Western Digital with 8mb cache.

Sample Rate set @ 512 samples

Input + Output = 11ms thus overall latency = 22ms..

Was impossible for me to get any closer to 0ms latency - when I lowered the sample rate dropped aswell from 512 to 256..

*off to compare now* :D

1) Min = 33% / Max = 37% (spikes briefly) Avg = 35%

2) PC Desktop, E-Machines, VIA Chipset

3) XP SP2

4) Athlon 2600

5) 1 GB

6) M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 PCI - Edirol UA-25 USB (for input + headphones - Asio4all driver (disabled onboard sound)

Looks like I'm a tad high for what my system should be ... about 5% ... wondering why ..

1) 47% peak
2) Mac G4
3) 10.3.6
4) Motorola PowerPC G4 7455B 1.47GHz
5) 1.5 GB SDRAM PC133
6) stock
7) 7200rpm

I replaced Live's reverb with Apple's with similar settings and the CPU peaked at 37% with no difference in sound quality to my untrained ears. That's kinda good news I guess. However, I wouldn't mind if Ableton optimized Live for the Mac just a wee bit more

1) 106% System totally ground to a halt. It was hell to get it to stop playing, let me tell you.
2) Dell Dimension 2400
3) WinXP SP2
4) Celeron 2400
5) 512
6) Tascam US 122
7) 5400

Well, my system practically fell over when trying to play this file. I didn't expect much, but I didn't expect it would be that bad. Having said that, the PC I'm using was cheap as chips and it does comfortably outperform the machine I replaced with it, so I shouldn't complain.
