OT: Getting Mac to Read USB External HD

Post by Baron von Case » Sat Jan 24, 2009 12:40 am

Tell me I don't need to return my new Mac...

It is not reading my external hard drive. If I can't get it to do so, that's pretty disastrous, as I rely heavily on it for moving things from my previous PC and storing mass amounts of stuff my on-board 160G can't carry.

No Autoplay comes up, and I can't find anyplace where it indicates it is reading its connection (not in Finder or on the desktop).

I better find out soon 'cos I don't have iCare.

Thanks.

check with iDisk

applications -> utilities->iDisk

otherwise find Diskwarrior to recover/copy stuff to a mac-formatted hd

good luck,

does anything show up in the Disk Utility? Do any other USB based devices work on it? Does the drive show any signs of life when you plug the USB in? What format do you have the drive in?
