NI Maschine controlling Ableton just like APC40
Re: NI Maschine controlling Ableton just like APC40
with student discount it`s 389 €...that`s a adequate price i think.

As already said: Maschine is great for its purpose (velocity sensitive pads, editing on the device), but the APC40 is really different.
4x4 matrix with no scene launch buttons or stop buttons, not really an APC by any stretch.
The feedback is cool however, this definitely adds value to Maschine but it's no APC replacement.

I never intended this thread to be a "replacement for APC40" by any means. I think it adds value. It was a nice cherry on top kind of feature.beatpoet wrote:+1nbinder wrote:C'mon.... 4x4 clip launch matrix... it's great that you can use Maschine to launch clips, but certainly no APC40 replacement. I was planning on getting an APC as well simply because of the visual feedback. However, my workspace is getting totally cramped with controllers that I might be able to get by with a 4x4 grid to launch clips using Maschine. Lord knows I was getting by before with 3 different midi controllers and NO visual feedback

Re: NI Maschine controlling Ableton just like APC40
you probably could use 2 maschine controllers to get 8x4 triggers.
Anyway, one huge advantage of the maschine seem to be the LCDs. If you look at their videos, you'll see that in scene mode, they show a 4x4 grid
where each cell represents a scene name. Now if they would implement the ability to display ableton clipnames in those grids, the maschine controller
would become much more powerful
Feature request here http://www.native-instruments.com/forum ... ?t=81857in case someone else wants that.
With the upcoming m4l api, I sure hope it will be possible to use maschine's nice (and hardware controllable) browser to remotely load a clip in live
without having to look at the screen

If the Maschine is feedbackable from M4L, I will be all over it. Control LED states and write text to the LCD screens- that's my idea of a dream controller.

I wonder will it be possible using m4l to output text from Live to a mini LCD screen ?
transport, clip status etc.
I'm going to have to start writing down all the m4l stuff i need to try when it drops, the list is becoming endless.

Mine too, though in my dream controller the pads could themselves display text.Green Lemon wrote:If the Maschine is feedbackable from M4L, I will be all over it. Control LED states and write text to the LCD screens- that's my idea of a dream controller.
I posted a feature request for full LCD text control here http://www.native-instruments.com/forum ... hp?t=81873
Please post your +1 there. thanks
That should work, for example using the arduino objects. Not sure about LCDs on some midi controllers, as I think I read about Live not being able to output SYSEX, and as m4l uses live's midi, this might not work. Not sure about this.I wonder will it be possible using m4l to output text from Live to a mini LCD screen ?

Re: NI Maschine controlling Ableton just like APC40
I am trying to add more sends to the Ableton Controller Template but they're not working, also would like have Maschine's tempo knob control Ableton's tempo when using the Ableton Controller Template... anyone customizing that template yet? I know how to do this if Maschine is just in basic Midi control mode (just like a bcr) but not when in it's in Control Template mode.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Yep... really fun. After going through all the tutorials, which are really well done, I have a pretty good handle on it. It's a really good fit for me.I've got Kore2 as well and it has never really clicked for me... partially because I can't load instruments from the controller so I'm mousing a lot more then I thought I would but I can work within Maschine for hours without mousing except for saving. I'd like to be able to save with the hardware as well.

i havent even gone through the manual yet.i need to,just for performing simple tasks.it will be great once they get the whole midi thing working so you can use the seq with drum racks or whatever.. drool.continuous wrote:Yep... really fun. Re: NI Maschine controlling Ableton just like APC40
I think it's pretty intuitive but just in case you missed these videos....
http://www.native-instruments.com/newre ... /maschine/
They have a bunch of vidz here that are fun just to sit down and sorta play along with.
Did some sampling/slicing for the first time last night. Played Black Flag intro distortion in... sampled it and sliced it up and then made a group outta it... easy, fast and fun.Sound quality is real nice to.
cheers
p.s. hope it doesn't seem like i'm trying to pump this product to others or something, especially not matching it against the Abe's new Akai controller... Ableton is my fav co. in the world.. a model to live by and the APC will be the shit!
