Live 8 - Sluggish interface

Post by Petteri Karjalainen » Sat Apr 04, 2009 10:03 pm

Hi.

I noticed a rather annoying "feature" after I upgraded to Live 8 yesterday; while the scaling of the interface seems like a nice addition to the feature list, it seems to slow down the update rate for the entire Live GUI. I mean comparing to Live 7 where all faders, dials and graphigs are lightning fast, Live 8 seems to struggle while I try to tweak knobs. And if I arm a channel for recording, Live's GUI becomes slightly faster than a slideshow! Anyone else get have these issues?
I'm running Live 8 on a 2.0ghz macbook with 4gb of ram and a 7200prm hard drive.

PS: anyway to "turn off interface scaling? :D"

i've noticed that during play back, it's a little slow to change folders in the browser window.

Works perfectly fine over here, with a unibody MBP. I see no difference in performance when scaling the interface either. If you set scaling to 100% no scaling is applied. I don't think you can turn it off anymore than that.

Maybe it's a graphics driver's issue? Have you checked for updates? Also, if you haven't already, do search http://www.apple.com/support for any firmware updates that applies to your model. I've noticed that occasionally, OS X's built-in updater doesn't find firmware updates.
L8.1.4 Suite, MBP Unibody 2.4 GHZ 4GB OS X 10.6.4, Apogee One, Akai LPK25, Novation Nocturn, Korg Legacy w/MS20i controller, ComboSister, Moog Modular V, Oddity, Amplitube, T-Racks, CSR, Roland TD-12, guitars and basses and whatever...

Noticing the same thing here at times, dragging and dropping clips in arrange view can sometimes have a slight delay, even with relatively few clips. Not happening all the time though, kind of hit or miss.

very odd.. I mean _everything_ is updating slower.. and when I arm a track for recording and start the actual recording, the whole interface with meters and such updates like at 5fps!! now if I do the same with the same project in live 7, everything is fine, no glitches whatsoever :(

I found myself having to double my buffer size to achieve at least some level of stability, which is ridiculous. Even then, live continued to be super sluggish. And it got progressively worse, as I added effects and automation. Ended up being barely usable. Had to save/quit and call it a day.

Frustrating. And I've already started using some of the new L8 effects, so no way to finish that project unless this gets fixed.

haven't noticed anything major that I would call sluggish yet.. but projects w/ 60+ tracks that use to register at 35-40% CPU on ableton's meter now registers at 25%.. Could it be that they improved the multi-core support? Currently on OSX 10.5.5 on Mac Pro 2xQuad..

Same problem here when arming record it takes a while for the graphics
to even show it and start recording. no count in set either.

Ok.. It seems that the Live 8 GUI lags heavily only when I use it on the external 24" monitor, but when I use live 8 only on the laptop without the monitor connected, the GUI is fine. Live 7 on the other hand performs just like it should on the 24" monitor. Strange.

EDIT: If I keep live 8 window small on the 24" monitor, it works fine.. but if I maximize or use full screen on the 24" monitor, the gui starts to crawl on it's knees. :( can anyone duplicate this?
