Only through the medium of monkey pictures and/or humorous youtube links. The ableton's will all be drunk until Tuesday so it makes no difference really.

BTW : I'm not saying there aren't bugs, of course there are.
I'm just saying that "couldn't be arsed to test it" is Satan's way of making sure your copy is fucked.

i tested.. reported bugs.. waited 4-5 beta releases for them to get fixed.. but eventually they did

never put it through the stress of opening a nearly completed track made entirely in v7 and trying to work on it..

had nearly 50 crashes in a matter of hours after getting the release version..

whiner or not.. i think there's a lot of people in the same boat who did testing (and a ton of downloading on almost a daily basis with their release schedule)
and think there should have been more done before release..

like getting reports of boxes hitting the shelves a couple days before the release while things were still being tested just seems fucked up to me

Tone, once more, here in Chicago,we're getting our asses pelted with heavy wet snow, so I'd thought I'd cheer myself up thinking about my favorite coffee shop/bakery in SF.

And what about those who beta tested, and didn't have this issue during the beta phase? Obama says we have the right to complain.

Screw testing. I've got a job.
The Abes emailed me saying they had a finished product.
I paid them $360 and got a suite that won't install.

I don't mind coming here to sort things out, but could we lighten up with the blame game and get on with the helping out?

Reading some of the responses here makes me think we are somehow obligated, as customers, to help them test.

If this were really the case you'd think the product would be a little cheaper?

But what do I know, I'm just on version 7, so what right do I have to even post here, as someone will no doubt point out.
when it comes to pricing and quality of service, I'd only compare them to their competition, I can't speak to that.

if you didn't get in on the beta until it was a wide open free for all, I guess that's another part of Ableton's elitist software development strategy. but it's been wide open for WEEKS, lots of time. an hour download and you get to play with a new toy for free. you don't have to be a fanboy to appreciate that, you just have to appreciate the software.

smutek and jamesp make a point. but if you don't use it that much, you can wait for fixes. like I keep posting, 7.01 didn't work for me at ALL, so I used 6. YMisV.

sucks you're having problems, better luck next year.

HA HA!! :P

Hi folks,

another public Live 8 beta version is available now.

There are also a few hundred more free beta slots available. To register for the beta just go to http://www.ableton.com/beta.

People deserve the right to good software, there's no denying that. It was a lot easier a long time ago when we wrote software for proprietary systems that we built ourselves (circa 1980-1990).

But on the 1980's a lot of CPU companies came...and went... Back then I thought the Z80 would beat the 8080 easily but where is Zilog now?

Nowadays it may be a bit easier on the Mac, because that seems to be what Ableton uses to do the development, and they are also a proprietary system.

The PC world is a lot different, a much more open system.

Linux is even more free, but there is no Live on that.

But my point is this - look over the Live XX Performance Test forum and look at all the different machines there.

Notice how many are 'SELF-BUILT'.

I can identify with that, I use to build all my stuff, but that's not possible any more with large software projects.

The complexity of current software is just mind-boggling. If you've never written any software that didn't contain a few thousand modules written by a few dozen people who speak several different languages, you can't imagine.

Yes, there are a lot of bugs in Live 8.0.1.

Yes, I beta tested just about every version, except for a few that had updates before I could finish the last download. Yes, that didn't prevent me from having installation problems.

Yes, Ableton rushed this release - it was probably supposed to be out last November for NAMM. But that's no different from anyone else. Except, perhaps, for NI who hasn't released a version of Reaktor since who can remember.

But instead of whining and complaining, why don't we try to help each other a little?

It seems to me a whole lot easier to write a happy posting than an unhappy one.

This one is really hard to write.

Angstrom wrote:a lot of people missed the point of the beta testing - that was the time to get your particular bug fixed. People seem to treat it like it's "working for free", but in fact it's "getting my problems fixed before I buy it"

you notice how most people who beta tested a bit now have the stable copies, and those that did not test have issues?
that's simply because we tested it, noticed whatever bug was in there that affected us, reported it and got it fixed months ago.

Beta testing is for your own benefit. It's a (nearly) totally selfish activity where you get to streamline the app for yourself. Or you could let Ableton just guess at solutions until they happen across one that works for you. That also works eventually.

ITT, I detect large quantities of fail coming from Tone Deft.

used to live 2 blocks from there. there was always a line and the crowd is the Dolores Heights crowd, not my scene. the food always looked and smelled outstanding. instead I got my morning coffee and breakfast across the street at Java Supreme. great place though, I should check it out.

are you a Dolores Park refugee?

We all know its gonna take a few updates for it to be super stable. Im well impressed with the product so far, and i will glady persevere or at worst just install v7 and go with the flow until the next update is ready.

so all of a sudden you have time to use Live 8?

"or at worst just install v7"
you don't have v7 installed??? you're not even fucking using v7? you're pissing about the forum over software you don't have time to use and don't use anyway?!?!

just curious.

Happy Days. weather's great here, window's open, nice breeze, heavy with the smell of bacon the wife is cooking up.
WTF???

Who do you think you are Tone Daft???

Ive been purchasing and using Ableton since v4. Beta tested most of them, but mow my work dictates and dont have time to beta test the product! I need to work with a finished article.

I spend about 30 hours a week in Ableton, would hardly say i dont use the product lol.

So i have been using v7 since it came out, only just uninstalled it

For you information i did a completely fresh install prior to loading v8 Suite because i intend to try solely using Ableton to see how i get on..

Why do you feel the need to come on here and moan, about us moaning? Youve been a good help to me when ive ever been stuck and asked for help on the forum, i never expected such an arsey response from you.

No need for someone like you to act like a dick, theres more than enough of em here already

Had a few problems with beta, but have had no major issues so far with 8.01,
other than getting it installed and running properly without crashing.

Once I got past that, all good.

Fingers crossed.

just because you buy it doesnt mean you have to use it (hold on to a stable version). . in my experience any dependance on first versions of hardware / software is going to end in frustration.

(and remember to cash in that coupon before it expires .. june?)
