Assuming that the folder structures in the L7 and L8 libraries are the same (i.e. if you, let's
say, are missing an Operator patch); couldn't one simply drag the files from the Live 7 library
onto the Live 8 library (which is apparently missing material), and click "no to all" when asked
if one wants to overwrite identical files? This is, of course, provided that one made a L7 backup
prior to merging libraries.

Like the legacy Grain Delay for example.

You can't blame them for wanting people to start with a cleaner and better organized library.
Show me one person that actually uses all 12000 files..
To declare all of the previous Impulse presets "legacy" is just plain stupid. I use a lot of those presets. The new ones are mainly crap. Ableton should have taken the time to sort out what was really legacy and what wasn't.

So even though you're advised to use your Live 7 library or at least a copy of it, you're upset because they didn't include this in an already 1.2 GB download.
And its still available..

I'm sorry, but there is no way of winning this argument either side. Some people will be pissed off that they have to download the same content over and over. Other people will complain because they're inconvenienced with missing files. Even though they're not missing. Not even hidden. They're in their previous library. Or in the new one once everything is installed.

Ableton just doesn't get it when it comes to migrating content to a new release. They also screwed up the migration in 6 to 7. The existing EIC presets wouldn't work with EIC2. I don't have this problem with Pro Tools and Cubase. But Ableton seems to think they can just throw everything away and start over. Maybe they don't really believe people use their content.

Yeah, I wanted to use my eic2 grand piano in my live suite 8 upgrade but doesn't seem to be around anywhere. I kept the live 7 library as it was and started a new library for live 8, don't know if that's the way you should do it but I just thought it would all be there when I upgraded, answers on a postcard....... would be appreciated!

I notice that the waves for
waveforms/components/atmospheric/

and all the subfolders are all gone

as are all the AMS files from
waveforms/components/harmonic

and all sub folders , they are all gone too.
