creating dry/wet knob for FX that don't have one?

Is there a simple way to create a dry/wet knob for effects that don't have one built in, possibly with racks? I know i could do this by duplicating a track or with sends and fussing with the levels, but it seems like there should be a way to do it with just one knob.

For instance, using Amplitube, it would be great if it had a dry/wet knob so i could use the effect easily live, on the fly as a distortion or whatever.

the easy answer: create a rack with two chains. chain 1 = no effect. chain 2 = effect. map each chain's volume to a single macro, and in macro map mode invert the min/max values on one of the chains. the one macro will now turn up one chain as it turns down the other and act as a rough wet/dry. i haven't done this myself, so there may be some crossfade issues: i.e. the volume being much louder at the 50/50 mark or whatnot.

cool, that's exactly what i was looking for. without having tried it i'm going to guess that the volume will fluctuate if your just doing it with volume knobs, but i'll start messing around with it and see what i can do.

The reason i don't want to do it with sends is because it would be for live use, and i need one knob I can turn to add the effect.

Hmm, not exactly though, as you will still get the unprocessed sound coming through, unless you have the output set to send only, bu then you will get just the processed sound or no sound.
