I generally agree, but the protocol that Ableton should support is OSC.
Euphonix is just yet another controller with its own protocol of which there are tons.
If Ableton supports one, they'll have to support all.

Where if Ableton would just support OSC, controller manufacturers would have to adapt to the software. Which is actually easier in a sense. Because there are no banks with OSC, just a wonderful string of data.

And stop making out the APC as this magical device that sets live development back.
Its a mackie controller with a clip grid. Get over it.

Alright....so with your APC Mackie you're going to produce???
Not really. AND....if there was OSC support....thats the point. Only Ableton control scripts and Mackie emulation. Is that all?

Could you fill out the sentences? I'm missing the words on the dots.
I think we got a crossed connection here.
You complain about Live being locked to a controller and then you suggest to lock it to another controller. Albeit a bigger one.

I agree we should get better and more professional control over Live, but eucon isn't the answer. Because what happens if the other manufacturers want their ethernet mixing desks supported in Live?
One protocol: OSC!
Instead of a protocol that only can be used by euphonix.

...that's just my style of writing - no words to fill in.
At no point I mentioned locking Live to another controller. Where am I talking about that?
I stated out that there should be Eucon AND mybe OSC etc. support! No locking to specific controllers.

And yes I can see you are a big fan of OSC. Why not. Me too - side by side with Eucon and other formats.
"Instead of a protocol that only can be used by euphonix" <<- More than much explained that I don't want Live to be LOCKED to Eucon

Well we agree then. Live needs to support OSC. Lets go grab a beer :D

What I meant by locking to a controller: The lack of control we have now is because Ableton has to support many other controllers. And as you proved with your faderfox argument, they have to maintain these scripts too.
This all results in us being limited to the specifications set of automapping when Reason first started supporting it. Its a vicious cycle.

OSC hopefully won't be that far off. We can soon try to add it ourselves with Max for Live (which means Eucon can support themselves) or some clever dude is going to hack OSC thru python in Live (again) and get a job at Ableton as a result of it.
No more "if's and but's", just when and WHEN!!!!

I own the Suite 8 license and I am getting the black/white splash screen on my Mac when running Ableton 8.0.4.

8.0.4 is ~10% bigger than 8.0.3 :(

769MB vs 678MB - where did that come from? Does 8.0.4 include all of the APC-40 photoshop jpegs?

Edit: but it now supports CYRILLIC alphabet - thank you!!!

Silly question, but is there some kind of APC-tastic version of Live other than simply selecting the APC in the midi setup? There was a Live 7 version in the APC box but I already had 8 so stuck with that...anything I should know?

cheers

Hey, you on 10.5.6 or .7? .7's working fine for me now (after the sleep/airport workaround), so maybe update if you haven't already...? Apparently there are some graphics fixes from .6 to .7...

Suite with B/W splash screen.
To those with color splash screens (and Suite), are you downloading the update via Live 8 (in Help)?
