Equipment for a live setup
Re: Equipment for a live setup
A very close musician friend of mine recommended this interface for my current needs. Any thoughts?

Re: Equipment for a live setup
Hi Dash,
Sorry, no experience of that one.
It only has 2 mic inputs though.
I'd recommend getting something with more inputs - from the instruments you've listed wanting to use, I'm sure you'll be glad you did.

Re: Equipment for a live setup
*UPDATE*
I am now using my new Macbook Pro.
Mixer: I am most likely going to get the Mackie Onyx 1220 http://www.mackie.com/products/onyx1220/
Sound card: I still need help with this. Some have suggested I use the Motu Ultralite. Since I have a mixer pre amps aren't completely necessary. Any more ideas? I am going to be working with ableton live, reason, and maybe logic/reaper/Digital Performer.
Speakers: I have narrowed it down to three choices. I found a pristine pair of Mackie HR824's that are 650$ http://www.mackie.com/products/HR824/specs.html. They are only 5 years old with little use, they look brand new. I have a fairly small room about 11X12 so I was thinking these may be overkill. For this reason it may be better to step down on the size so I was looking at the Yamaha MSP5's http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MSP5stu/ and the Alesis M1 Active 620's http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/M1Active620/
Any thoughts on these?
Keyboard: It seems like alot of people have been telling me that the ReMOTE SL 61 by Novation is a great buy especially now that the prices have dropped because of the newer model.
So as you guys can see I am still quite serious. I have slimmed down the range of options substantially but still need a little help and emotional support from your great minds

sweet.
sound card

The SL series are powerful but a bit over-techy. as a keys player you'll get more out of the left side LCD screen than me.
monitors - haven't heard either for a while but you're in a good neighborhood.
enjoy!

Im actually not a keyboard player.

i have the Mackie hr824.my studio is 3x4 meters(acoustically treated),don't have any problems with them in terms of roomspace(i listen to them at a pretty low volume).i produce, mix and master everything on these as well, they translate to other systems perfectly everytime(from ultracheap to very expensive speakers)you could even use these for those intimate concerts.
mind you, this comes from MY experience with them.i know there are better sounding speakers out there, but i would buy these again in a heartbeat.they scream at you when anything is wrong, they make love to your eardrums when all is mixed&mastered well......
but hey,we can only show you the doors.YOU are the one that has to walk trough them.......
cheers!

Re: Equipment for a live setup
Thank you Tone Deft!
I was thinking about getting the Echo AudioFire 4 or even better the Echo Indigo IOx express card since my Macbook has an express card slot. Any thoughts or experience with either of these?
I would be interfacing this with the Mackie 1220 Onyx mixer. I just ordered the Alesis M1 620 monitors aswell.
P.S. Tone Deft - I am going to be driving through San Francisco from the 24th of July to the 3rd of august! Just thought Id tell you. Know of any sweet spots or awesome shows?

Re: Equipment for a live setup
Anyone use Echo AudioFire with Mac and ableton?
Re: Equipment for a live setup
Got the monitors the other day. I also got an Audix I5 dynamic mic and a CAD M179 Condenser mic. I just ordered a Mackie 1220 Onyx with Firewire for my interface.
I still cant figure out what keyboard controller to get.

Re: Equipment for a live setup
just some thoughts for keyboards (depending on individual needs): Novation Remote MKI series, AKAI MPK series, Edirol PCR series, Korg Kontrol 49; for starting/figuring out maybe just a cheap small 2 octave controller
Re: Equipment for a live setup
It seems like most people point to the Novation series mainly for the auto mapping.
Re: Equipment for a live setup
If it's any help, I find the M-Audio Axiom to be a good one. Good combination of keys, knobs & pressure pads give quite a lot of control for such a small unit.
I use the 25, but they also do a 49 & 61 key versions. The larger ones have more controllers.
