I was just about to post a new topic... hmmm.
Anyway.......
Neat trick, may be handy.
But how do you take a stereo track and make two mono tracks? (Left/right)
This is after it has been recorded.
I'm useing a digidesign M box and want to record two vocal tracks at the same time (or just split L/R of my synth) I would rather not have to go through pro tools to do this.
any help.
Thanks.

since you have a mbox i would use protools it will take you 5 seconds to split the sterio track into two mono tracks...

in ableton three and a half seconds
copy the track, paste it into another. Put an utility effect on each, select mono with left channel on one, right channel on the other. ready. no protools needed.

if i understood correctly all you want to do is record a mono track, right?
Open the audio preferencies. Go to the Input Configuration menu and enable "mono" and "stereo" for your desired inputs. Afterwards you will get each channel as single mono channel and as stereo pair in the input chooser of the routing. Now you can easily decide if you want to record input 1 or 2 as mono input or 1 and 2 as a stereo input.
