Able-Tones Music fest SIGN UP HERE :)....................
hi all, nice project idea!
Yeah, I'm up for building weird samples and arranging/chopping/mixing/ and also for dropping some ridiculously phat SH bass.
If there's a cross-genre team coming, I'm particularly interested. I guess I'm a deconstructionist, I love having my work transformed into something completely different, and doing the same to others.
I'm also ready to head a team, if need be.
Andreas.

IMm working on a lengthy data post collecting everyones skills and I will post later. It will make it easier for team leaders to allocate members to teams because the threads a little messy to read.
All will be explained or at least as much as I can think of. Its based on the marsh psw design but I can promise all of you our job in here will be much easier. Over there was a huge task. If they can pull it off so can we.
Im very happy we have some vocalists, guitar players, and real live dummers.
The fusion of electronica and organic could be interesting.
The time and effort required from each individual will not be very much at all I can assure you of that. A participant can add as little or as much as they like
Still need
mixers
arrangers
Team Leaders
I can think of a number of people in here who would be great team leaders
COME ON SIGN UP
If you play a mongolian bagpipe. SIGN UP.
Mix it up , have fun.

yeah, I did drum editing and a bit of fx work on the CAPE2 team industry track. It was a great experience and this could be just as good if the right tastes collide. looking forward to it.16 BIT wrote:All will be explained or at least as much as I can think of. Excellent. This is why we shouldnt rush in to deciding a start date. The post has only been up a few days and I remember at PSW it took two or three weeks for most to sign up. Even after teams were decided people wanted to join. Hence the subs as a few dropped out for but mostly personal reasons. One team nearly split up which I thought was funny. It was a like a real live band arguing among themselves. This is where team leaders step in and smooth things overmosca wrote:thought about it, i'll join

Thanks for signing up
Only differenc ethere I dont have Mixermans diplomatic skills or writing abilities. He has a knack for inspiring people no doubt about that.filarion wrote:yeah, I did drum editing and a bit of fx work on the CAPE2 team industry track. I didnt realise a CApe 2 went ahead. WOW, just goes to show how successfull Cape 1 was.
One thing though, as far as I know thi shas never been down with everyone using the same software. We gotta have something unique to us.
Great to have upi on board
yeah, the tracks were posted in december, the links are probably still up and running. it's on the MARSH Nexus forum. cape 2 had even more bickering and dropouts than cape 1 but the music was better in my opinion (partly electronic drums in our track and some Live timestretching as well).
the software point is definitely true and it will make a lot of stuff easier..
in cape the teams were sorted by forum mods however, even team leaders. I don't think that's possible on this board, it's a little less community oriented.. pfff, whatever, let's get this started already =)

Agree. PSW web is more suitable for something like this. They were allowed to make their Marsh a sticky which would help here. Ive been Pm'ed with a suggestion pointing to a forum thats very quite and would love to host this. I agree this board is less community spirited but that could change with stuff like this. Its never happened on the Logic or Cubase forum so lets show em us Able-tones can get our acts together.filarion wrote:yeah, the tracks were posted in december, the links are probably still up and running. it's on the MARSH Nexus forum. cape 2 had even more bickering and dropouts than cape 1 but the music was better in my opinion (partly electronic drums in our track and some Live timestretching as well).

Its happened to a certain degree on the Reason forum but not to this extenet. There its more of swapping files and thats about it. Still cool though.
It would be superb if the abs could add a community forum so we could do this there. That place would also be great for off topic subjects of which there are to many on the general forum.
How about it Ableton.?
The community here would appreciate an off topic forum.

Can I join???
I like to think I'm not too bad at the programming end of things, beats especially, I like designing sounds also.
I could add some live bass too and maybe shout some lyrics (not promising they'll be in tune or anything though

If team leaders get to pick I'd like to request that I be the last one picked. Just wanted a little nostalgia from my childhood.Benshik wrote: any idea yet on how the teams will be divided?
Wouldn't want THAT trend to change!
The question is not whether or not you are influenced, but rather what it is that influences you.

If we can't get any webspace for hosting, what about setting each team up with a gmail account, and all the members would have the password for their teams account. It would be an easy way to share and access what people are working on.
I have an account and can "invite" 6 new accounts anytime so that's 6 gigs of potential sharing space right there.
I posted earlier that I was interested in participating, and still am. Anyway 16bit, let me know if setting up these accounts is a good idea. PM me or email me via my website if need be. (this forum seems kind of cumbersome)

This is a long post but nescessary to simplify the process and enable Team Leaders to allocate members to respective teams

If I have missed someone dont worry. PM me or Jesus or add it yourself.
The wealth of different musical tastes and abilities is exactly what we need here. Weve got a field recordist, vocalists, bagpipe player, guitarists, Bass Players Drummers, Drum programmers, Sound designers, Arrangers, mastering, shouters, Violinist, Manglers, Sound destroyers, FTP servers. All Good good good good
Some of you said you would join in but forgot to mention your skills. PM me or jesus with your skills or add them in yourself
A few points
1. It doesnt matter how good or bad your your skills the point of this is not egotism in any way, Its about musicians interracting with each other regardless of ability and having some fun. We may also learn something from each other. When the files are in your hands it matters not if you feel you cant add something. No one is going to be singled out. Not by me, not by your team members or your producer. THATS A RULE!
2. Theres still a need for more people. If you sign up please add them in the format you see above to keep it simple. We currently need Producers and mastering engineers. I dont mean Bob Olson. You can try and master, have fun. The point is everyone can do something. If you like to tweak mastering is a good choice. It can be done with software.
3. I notice two people with good organisation skills. Jesus and Basetwo. If you guys feel like your up for the challenge of accepting the honour and highly valued job of being the project leaders then feel free. You can also double up as a player if you wish. You will liase with producers and help smooth out any rifts that may occur, assign team members and generally be the bosses with the real power
4. REMEMBER, iregardless if you are assigned as a keys man feel free to double up as a bass player if you wish. Add what you like. As long as you attempt to do your allocated task your job is done. But there are exceptions. The arranger must arrange the track, just like the mixer. has to mix the track.
5. The Project leaders will assign individuals to the teams based on skills and need. Some of you may be allocated to a team you feel isnt your forte. If you feel you would like to switch to another team ask your producer. If he feels you have a valid point he will bring it to the attention of the project leaders and they will decide if they can place you on another team. If they say no you must stick with your team. You will be amazed how a track begins to form. The first time I did this I hated the track initially. When it was finished I haad to eat my words. They develop so dont worry about the first files you get. Add something and pass it on. Your producer will decide who the files are passed on to next. A file can also be sent back to you if you feel you can enhance your parts, or add some ne flavour. Creativity is the key word.
6. Members dropping out will not be flamed. Life can throw up unexpected situations and I expect a few to drop out for various reasons which will be none of our business. This is why latecomeres to the project even after the teams have been allocated are called subs. They can then be placed in a team if someone drops out. OR another team can be made up of the subs.
7. When you are assigned to your team its probably a good idea to open an email account with the same name you have here. For example [email protected]. [email protected]. When you email a team member always CC the other members in your team so they are kept in the loop. Of course if you have something private to say email your producer.
OK, what we need now is a couple of people to sign up as project leaders so we can get the ball rolling. If no one signs up as project leaders then it would be great if someone is willing to take on the job temporarily. It will then be up to the producers to handle any unforseen problems (like a member opting out). The producers job is to discuss with his team the direction of the track, keep the team motivated, stcik to deadlines and decide the teams name. Think of it like a film producer or old skool style music producer.
Im now going to cut and copy some interesting points posted on this thread and post them after this. Their worth reading as they give a good idea of how it all works. I know this may sound complicated but it isnt.
