Ya know, that's a real good question. But honestly even though this is an Ableton and music forum I quite honestly can't think of another public setting where you can drop random topics and get a lively discussion. If you can think of a better place post it.

point taken but you might notice that Ableton logo at the top of the forum. maybe you've seen it, it's those horizontal and vertical bars in black and white. that's a software company that makes some really cool music software. most of us use it and love to talk about it. I know it's nerdy but it's my main hobby.

have you done anything interesting with Live lately? that might make for a cool thread. it sounds crazy but it's something to consider.

:P ;)

so, between you and your roommate, who's on top? if the dishes are left out for too long, which one will cave and do them first? you two live together, sure, there's not a lot of (sober) sex going on between you two but it is a relationship, you live together and help each other out.
(shit, there I go with the OT...)

mistake me if im wrong but the "general" threads in forums are meant to all be off topic subjects, this one is just convoluted with program questions that were probably meant to be in the tips or support section

at least when you discuss something here you know that since you are both coming from a music background there is bound to be common ground (maybe.)

nothing wrong with what we talk about here were human beings too not just software automatons, the most important thing about music is the life experiences that we have it all goes into it and just think we are all meeting right here right now on this plane of existence for this moment, it's best to say what we have to say to each other, I've learned alot from you guys about music and other things as well. for me all the shit we talk about is what I write about musicly anyway so it's a good place to be.

I would love to be a housewife, but it's probably not in the cards for me in this mixed-up modern world.

you hit the nail on the head. You are witnessing the results of the planned destruction of our societies through programmed cultural changes. Billionaires owned foundations lead the cultural revolution. They had that goal since the 50's and have planned those changes to society. Now I'm sure you didn't mean this. I suppose the quote tags just got messed up. But the quote came off as if I was recommending that right wing conspiracy crap. So just for the record, I didn't, I just called BS.

I'm willing to bet the older members of this forum will say "I/she still does that" but that answer will become less frequent as the age level decreases.

Discuss.
I'm not so sure this is true at all. How many fewer men and women have these "traditional" skill sets? Furthermore, how many used to "back then"? I don't think you, or anyone, has any reason to believe that what you say is true other than unqualified personal experience. If I were to counter with my own personal experience, I could bring up my roommates - two men and one woman. The two men are both competent and skilled laborers. One works in construction and the other frequently works on cars and motorcycles. They both own lots of neat and useful tools that they use often. The woman of the household is a pretty good cook. As a man, I am the black sheep of gender roles in the house as I cook my own food and can't even change the oil in my own car (I make up for my handy-man shortcomings by wrestling grizzly bears and grinding their faces off with my incredibly masculine stubble).

Are traditional gender roles changing? Yeah, especially in child reaering. Are the parameters you specified really changing that much? I doubt it. Is it making "us" stupid and lazy? Absolutely not. Education attainment has been on the rise pretty steadiliy for the past few decades, too. Say what you want about how smart you perceive people as being, but it's difficult for more people to be stupid and lazy than before yet have a higher percentage of 2 and 4 year degrees.

I don't know what this thread's about.

All the famous chefs I can think of are men, and when I go to get some clothes altered all the people sitting at the sewing machines are men too. Most of them seem robustly heterosexual to me.

I don't know how to fix a car, I will cheerfully pay someone else to do it. But if I wanted to I could probably learn.

The point is that there is no longer an expectation for women to cook and clean, and why should there be?

As for an overall decline in manliness I'm sure that's true. I hid under the duvet last week until my wife had removed a spider from the bathroom.

Tarekith wrote:Actually I don't think the roles have declined so much as reversed in many ways. For whatever reason the recession seems to be hitting women in the workforce less than men. Out of the 5 couples my wife and I are friends with out here in Seattle, the women all have jobs while the men are stuck unemployed struggling to find work. Though I still do the construction and work on the cars :)

I think there's a lot of reverse sexism going on in the workplace right now. As companies have to make cuts they feel they have to keep a certain amount of diversity and, let's face it, guys generally like women in their workplace regardless of what quality of work they do.

I have a female friend with 0 college experience under her belt but she has consistently kept or quickly found well paying jobs regardless of the state of the economy simply because she's a hot chick in the IT department. That's a fact and she owns up to it.
Strangely enough, I used to work in an office that was somewhat the opposite of that, full of women at all levels and every time there was someone new, they'd all be hoping it would be a hot guy. Anything went wrong, or anything had to be lifted, I'd have to do it because I'm male, but it's not just men who want eyecandy around the workplace.

Men & women aren't better are certain jobs, just we are different and bring different qualities to a workforce, relationship, around the house etc

There has to be more guys here who can cook, sew, whoop ass and fix cars?!?! I learned most of that before high school.

You have to think about how your meeting people and how small of a micro-percentage of the population you actually come into contact with.
