sorry i don't have 4000 dollars to spend on a 13" screen

Congrats on getting a PC that works great!
I disagree that Macs cost more. If you add in the value of the included free software on the Mac, the money the Windows machines save by preinstalling crapware, and the better Apple build quality, I believe the price is about the same.
However, I personally would never trust a Microsoft OS to run my live show no matter what hardware I am using.

ahhhh mac vs. pc. The never-ending battle. Now we have smear TV commercials from both sides.
It's like the new politics.

gotta give a thumbs up for the Thinkpads. They are solid machines and have a nice no-nonsense look about them that I prefer over the Mac's stylised design. The rollcage and spill-resistant drainage system are nice bonuses and I prefer the feel of the keyboard and mousebuttons over those of the macbooks.
I bought a 2nd hand (but pretty much brand new otherwise) T60 for 500 euro's a couple of months ago. Used it a bunch of times for DJ-ing with Live and it's been great (although I'm not exactly taxing it's capabilities).

Whatever melts your butter... but if we are talking about added value of "free" software. there are plenty of free programs out there for PCs that do everything the "free" mac software does. so that included software isn't worth shit! are we going to get into arguing how great Garage Band is now???dysanfel wrote:Congrats on getting a PC that works great!

Build a PC!!!
and here's my proof that PCs are better and cheaper at the same time.

that notebook would smoke the 15" and 17" macbook pros. it's got more hard drive space on faster hard drives (2 drives instead of 1... which is better for audio work), a faster processor, a better video card... and still costs about $600 less than the 15" macbook pro 2.8 ghz.
why is this still being argued?!? PCs destroy macs across the board!

Forget computer vs computer. It's about OS vs OS.
Isn't the priority obvious?

problem there is.. that you can't use OS X legally without purchasing a Mac.knotkranky wrote:Forget computer vs computer. It's about OS vs OS.

Greetz,
Haven't had time to read all of this post BUT what I will say is (if on PC),
UPDATE YOUR FUCKING DRIVERS!
I've been having a few problems that are well documented on this forum..........
Snap, crackle and pop!
Just been trawling for updates and.........definite improvements!
I'm so 'kin happy now. I'm running 38 tracks of audio and 4-6 trax MIDI and I'm
looking at 35% to 65% CPU.
This is all on a geriatric PC from back in the day. (Specs can be posted but a pain in the ass).
I'm also running various FX (Live) plus "Epicverb, iDrum, Ozone" (Master) and various other plugs.
Before I updated the drivers this lot was a joke..............
now it's smooth as...........almost.
Strange thing is if you keep looping (for instance) a 16 bar doodah, after a while (indeterminate time) glitches start to happen. This is in "arrange" but it transfers to session.
BUT.........once you're happy with arrangement (MIX) it don't matter. It seems that once you go linear
all goes well.

The priority is a UI that flows and not a couple hundred bucks on the part that'll get tossed eventually.McQ714 wrote:problem there is.. that you can't use OS X legally without purchasing a Mac.knotkranky wrote:Forget computer vs computer. It's about OS vs OS.

The OS is the important investment, who cares what it runs on. If you're learning a language, learn the good one.
