must be great since you don't use Live and only come to the forum to chit chat on OT. it's great isn't it?!?! fun fun fun!!
It's not Monday. :|

it's amazing that the same people can argue the same shit over and over and over again and not learn to change their tact, learn to disagree or learn what the whole topic boils down to. it's the same shit over and over again largely from the same people. it's also largely the same people that only post OT, go figure.

I wouldn't take computer advice from anyone that's posted in this thread. the ones that do know this stuff haven't posted in it. lol irl.
Agreed, it's a time waste, in between jobs and bored that's my excuse = avoiding paperwork.

I'll never be a 100% mac fanboy until they release something to compete with the Toughbooks. Until then PCs have the advantage hardware wise IMO.

the paperwork is the main thing that makes me cringe at owning a business. I'm cool being a worker bee.

anyways...
there are some origins ...
to the whole MacVsPC (for music/media) thing...
in the days of old (up to Win98 days)...
the built in latency of the OS..
for performing media tasks
was 4 times that of the Apple OS's...
and it became a sort of 'industry standard' ...
all media studios had Macs...

those days are gone..
since win2000... the OS influenced performance on PCs==MACs..

and OS wise...I'm quite content with windows7...
I actually think it's pretty great.
anyways... MSFT makes the OS ...
HW... you have a choice between various HW manufacturers...
and PC's are getting sexier..I like the HP stuff alot
you can choose a kickarse graphics card...from a selection..
bottom line it's way more customizable ...
and I don't think there's a record of Macs being generally more stable...
only myth..

bottom line is it's all a matter of taste...
but on paper... I'm sorry to say...
I see no benefits in buying a mac..
except to think you're one of the cool crowd..
more expensive
less control over hw
less software compatibility...
less hw compatibilty...
(1 out of 5 Printers ..for instance... work on mac)
and less user customizable...
(I curse my ipod for this same reason...)

I've vented my MacVsPC for the whole year right there...
I'm out.. :|

If you keep up on it, it's no problem.... it's when you have to account for all of 08 taxes in one sitting, and the state taxes etc. or are as disorganized as I am paperwork wise, then yeah. 8O 8O 8O 8O

Getting to choose time off whenever you want is awesome, 2 week holes in your schedule during your usual busy season is frightening. I still wouldn't trade it for a single boss that I answered to though. If I don't like a contractor or customer, then I just triple my rates next time they try to hire me, and if they bite, it's at least worth the pain.

no idea what converters, just use you ears and check the latency you get with the onboard and core audio vs asio in most PC laptops...

i can run trouble free 128 samples on my onboard, going down even to 64.

the dells we have at work (don't know the model number by head) can barely manage 256 i actually need to run them on a minimum of 512 and sound rubbish... they are extremely noisy recording with the onboard... and that i witnessed with all PC laptops i've used or seen so far...

if you know some models with good onboard cards, name them, please and oh... they need to have digital I/O on top...

Only two more retorts, and then I'll leave the discussion:

1. Yes.
2. There are only 500 OSX users. And you fuckers are responsible for the 5% market share. That Windows 7 is about to eat for lunch.

@Machinesworking. I can do 22 tracks of audio for 50% less money than you. With the other 50%, I'll take you out for a drink, where we can beat each other some more with useless stats. :)

The only reasons I can think of...
Better audio/midi at the OS level. Sure you can add a bunch of third party stuff like AISO4ALL and networking MIDI stuff etc. to get the same functionality that OSX offers, but it's definitely a real feature to have it part of the OS.
Better drivers from third party manufacturers, due to the audi/midi stuff being easier on them.
Better chance at application stability as there are far less configurations of macs than the bazzillion PC set ups.

less software compatibility...
less hw compatibilty...
(1 out of 5 Printers ..for instance... work on mac)
This is bullshit.
If by software compatibility you mean more software then yeah, but printer wise?? Maybe in Israel?
