Agreed there are angrier bands but I generally don't get moved by songs about governments and mass atrocities. Trent's music is a very one on one deal. I know a lot of people find him whiny and you'd think after all these years of fame and fortune he would have found some more positive relationships with people but I like that he never fails to come up with a new way to say "You hurt me and I'm all alone".
Here's my fave track at the moment

Got really drunk at work last night and listened to Pretty Hate Machine > Broken > Downward Spiral. It was great fun! By the end I just wanted to thrash about in a gimp suit whilst getting whipped and cut on. Awesome music!

That's what I'm sayin'!
And if I could somehow change places on stage with Trent just for one show I think I would be completely stress free for about a year after. What a lucky cunt to be able to do that night after night for months on end. Not even the metal bands I've seen live get that agro on stage.

I love her!clarknova wrote:That Otep chick always seemed semi-upset. Quite whiny, though. But I always get a bit scared when she hits that pitch pedal...

You really want to be scared, realize she doesn't use a pitch pedal. Otep, I wouldn't call them whiney, more like angry, maybe to a cookie monster level. NIN is whiney.

Go see Slayer then. <---serious. People make fun of them because every metal kid in a trailer park has their t-shirt, but no band I've seen was that ridiculously tight live.beats me wrote: And if I could somehow change places on stage with Trent just for one show I think I would be completely stress free for about a year after. I'm pushing Justin Brodrick (the guy behind Techno Animal, Jesu, and Godflesh among other bands) here, pretty much everything he writes is personal, and he started at about the same point as Trent did with NIN, in Godflesh.
NIN isn't bad for sure, I'm glad he's successful, but as musicians I think it's great to look outside commercially accepted artists as well. So many really truly unique and talented individuals fall through the cracks, and some of them have just crazy discographies. If you think your musical output is all over the board, try Justin's.
