I'd like to get more into DJ'ing. The only thing I don't like is the DJs who stick to a specific genre... how much more dull can you get?

i spin since over 20 years now and there is nothing worse to me then DJs who spin the same sound and tempo all night long. it really bores me to death.
probably that is also why i hate going out in berlin sooo... much.

I don't consider myself a DJ. I'm not a great musician, I'm not a great composer, and I'm not satisfied creatively by DJ'ing or mixing other peoples music, but put those things together and somehow I can make it fit and feel the groove all on the fly. Live is perfect for it.

i used to write in garage band, record in DP, and then perform with various lo-fi pedals and cheap samplers and stuff, but i'm porting my whole trip over to ableton. write/perform/record. i really like what ableton does and feel like it was almost made for someone that does what i do. i just need some more woodshedding. [practice]
soon to be just a banjo and a laptop and midi controller, instead of all these pedals/powersupplies/cables.
doing about 150 shows a year domestically and in various other countries.
matt chamberlain hepped me to the software to begin with. and tom van schaik who plays drums in a country and western singers band, robert earl keen.

Re: Anyone NOT a DJ Here?
Well, as a musician I hate DJ's. A fucking glorified jukebox. BUT......as a person who loves to go to dance clubs, gets plastered,
and dance my fucking my night away. I have to say DJ's do their goddamn job and fucking do it well. At least the ones here in J-pizzle do. I couldn't do that shit and I simply don't know enough tracks to even fill up a set. Let alone a GOOD set.
As for me, I've played the drums for 17 years. I've been in a shitload of bands and after dealing with bandmates that don't give a fuck about practice, being good(let alone original) at their instrument, and them and their significant other's drama I've decided I don't need them. I was using DP for a long time(fucking swear by that program) but I fell in love with Live and all the things that it opened up for me. I can write music in Live .....I can fucking write it in there. That is the true purpose to this program. WRITING FUCKING MUSIC! At least for me it is. Anyway, Don't go to the links in my sigs, those songs suck dick and are not what I want to make. Unfortunately I have too many ideas and 80% of my tracks are experiements on methods or techniques I have learned.
The music that I brewing right now can only be described as thrash speed metal made with only electronic instruments. Drum machines and synths only. No guitars or sets. I want to get back into live instruments but my money situation and lack of space prevent me from resurrecting my killer drum kit.
So my ideal songs are fast hard synths, strange sounding melodies, hard hitting industrialesque drums / crazy sliced up samples and (selfmade) loops ala Otto Von.
I want to make music something that has meaning, satisfies me musically, and makes the listener want to cut through an army of zombies, demons, Sarah Palins. etc......

Re: Anyone NOT a DJ Here?
I'm most definitely no DJ I use Live to write music and create sounds in the studio, but when it comes to performing on stage the computer stays home and it's all hardware synths etc.
