Automating Scenes?
Automating Scenes?
Hi guys,
I´ve been using Live a bit already, but I am all new to the forum, so not sure if this is the right place to post this:
Is it possible to automate the scene playback in session mode somehow? Or do I always have to manually start the scenes?
Thanks!

Ok, so as far as I know there is no simple follow-action for scenes (only clips, as you say). See also this thread for a possible work around - http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?t=78428. Another alternative is to just select a horizontal line of clips and then apply the same clip follow action to them all in one go - should work...

There is no follow action to select next scene, etc. But by selecting all the clips in a scene you can easily set them all to the same follow action in a single operation.lady bug wrote:Thanks for the speedy reply. I have used follow actions before, but how do I use follow actions for scene automation?

alternatively search the forum for "dummy clips" which basically involves using something like midiyoke to allow Live to send itself a message to select the required scene.
Edit - beaten to it!

nope, there's a way.
first make a midi loop, either connect an out to an in or use MIDI yoke (PC) or the IAC on Mac.
second - options-preferences-midi - turn on REMOTE OUT for the output midi port and REMOTE IN on for the input. make sure to not turn on both in and outs for each port, that's a midi feedback loop, you'll crash your system.
third - assign notes to your scenes
fourth - make clips in a track with 1 note in each scene, then put those clips in follow mode. send this track out your midi port set up above
what happens is that the scenes send notes out of Live and they come back in as control data, launching scenes.

hi,
thanks for the quick replies, guys. In the meantime I learned about the Search function of this forum
Tone, thanks a lot for the instructions - it´s working perfectly well now (I use a Macbook btw.)
However, the dummy clip workaround is fine, but I´d prefer an easy way to automate the scene-playback in Live in the future (something like the follow actions).
I know I could lay out my set in the other view, but I like a bit of hands-on control, a perfect mixture (I know =>feature wishlist...)
Cheers,
LB
