Using Apple Jam Packs with Live
Using Apple Jam Packs with Live
I would like to use some of my Garage Band Jam Pack files in Live but I don't know where to look for them on my mac
(new user). Has anyone done this, and could you give me some clues as to where to look for them so I can set up Lives browser?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I would like to
you can find the GB Library normaly
HD > Library > Audio > Apple Loops
but in my version this are .caf files that you need to convert befor use in Live to aif or wav.
I'm searching for a batchexport for this (on Mac os)

Re: Using Apple Jam Packs with Live
Ok, so now I am confused. If I follow your suggested library path I do indeed find a bunch of .caf files. But my Jam Pack box has AIFF on the side. Could it be possible that because I have iLife 09, that the loops supplied with this are the more recent .caf files (which I believe are similar to the Jam Pack content of Logic Pro 8 ), and that the above mentioned .caf files are not the actual Jam Pack files I installed from the disk? Could there be another place where sample content could be stored?ChrisSummer wrote:I would like to

Re: Using Apple Jam Packs with Live
hmmmmm yes there could be an other place
maybe
HD > User > Library > Audio > Apple Loops
or
HD > Library > Application Support > Garageband
( on my system there is just a symlink to the first posted directory)
else you can try spotlight if you know a samples name (File name)
spotlight will show you the place
sorry for my bad english
.caf files got some more meta informations then aif - this meta is used in GB and Logic to match BPM and Harmony etc..
this is the only difference to the aif's (i think)

Re: Using Apple Jam Packs with Live
Just found it
HD>Library>Application Support>Garage Band>Apple Loops>Jam Pack 3 Rhythm Section>.aif files galore
So I definitely think the .caf files are from iLife 09.
Thanks ChrisSummer for your help.
To late to try these tonight with Live, but will have a go tommorrow.
Nite Nite.

Re: Using Apple Jam Packs with Live
another way is to find the preset files (for the exs synth for example) and dump drag n drop into an instance of sampler. this should automatically convert them into live compatible patches. . doesnt work for more complex orchestral type patches though.
Re: Using Apple Jam Packs with Live
You can use SoundConverter http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/a ... erter.html to bulk convert .caf files to aiff .

It is a bit odd isn't it? Cost USD14 by the way. You can pay with Paypal, or see here http://www.dekorte.com/projects/shareware/faq/How do I buy SoundConverter?
When you use a feature that requires a license, the license panel will appear with instructions on how to buy.
Do I need to be connected to the internet to use SoundConverter?
No. You only need to be connected to purchase it.
What comes with the license?
The license removes the 500K file limitation. It is only for the machine and logic board it was purchased on. All upgrades of SoundConverter are free for that machine, but if you want to run SoundConverter on a different machine you will need to purchase another license. Please only purchase a license if you are ok with this.
Where's my license key?
If you've paid, just hit the "I've paid" button the next time the license panel appears and it will autofetch your key.

Re: Using Apple Jam Packs with Live
I use AudioFinder to convert CAF files. I select the files I'm interested in and choose Convert to AIFF (or WAV) from the file menu.
Re: Using Apple Jam Packs with Live
im confused by this thread; the thing i always found difficult abouty jam pack material was getting the exs. presets converted (multi samples of aif.s) into sampler. does anyone have any tips on this?
