muting/unmuting audio, realistic to do without a mess?

Post by Johnisfaster » Mon Aug 10, 2009 7:32 am

I'm getting into muting/unmuting audio tracks using the apc and although it usually goes really well sometimes it sounds a little rough, is it possible to do that without once in a while sounding crappy? maybe it just takes practice..?

practice. with M4L you can probably write a script that forces the mute buttons to work on global quantization. also turning them into hold buttons instead of toggles works much better

it would be great if I could quantize it to 16th notes, but then I might be better off just practicing it

Yeah - play the buttons rhythmically. Think "call and answer".

it takes practice, it's not a technical thing rather a musical, when to mute / unmute so it fits.

Dummy Clips perhaps?
You sacrifice an Audio Track to contain custom mutes. That way you can use quantization and apply tiny fades to avoid clicks.

oh I can feel when to mute/unmute things, thats the fun of it, but once in a while if you don't do it at precisely the right moment you kinda clip part of a sound and it sounds kinda bad. I'm just wondering if I could realistically expect to practice enough to avoid that kind of thing. it's actually quite fun to force yourself to try and do it "without a net", very engaging.
