Tip: found a new type of exciter

Post by djgroovy » Wed Nov 18, 2009 2:23 pm

Little tip of something i just found out.
There are plugins designed for exciting the high frequencies on dull sounds.
Some are better, some suck. You can even do it with an high pass filter followed by a saturator in a send in Live.

I just found another way though, and it sounds great:

- use a convolution reverb, with a hihat sample as the impulse, and adjust to taste. 8)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convolution_reverb

The purpose of convolution reverb is to sample the acoustic response of a room or space or even of analog equipment and then use that sample (called impulse response) to process audio, giving the illusion that the audio was recorded in that space.

Cool thing about them though, is that you can use other samples instead of impulse responses.

This sounds good..I've already downloaded both reverbs. Also, I have always been trying to understand what is a convolution reverb. I think you did a good job of explaining. Not even Tarkith could do better.
fe real!
