Is there anyway to change this sound? Like map it though the gm synth on my soundcard, anything would be better than the default preview sound
Any way to change to MIDI preview sound?
Any way to change to MIDI preview sound?
When I click on a midi clip in the Live browser it plays back with some horrible sinus tone.

Re: Any way to change to MIDI preview sound?
Reviving this thread--I would like to know the same. The MIDI preview sound is a clicky sine wave sound that makes it very difficult to preview files esp drum tracks. Wondering if there is a way to change it? Do others experience this problem?
Re: Any way to change to MIDI preview sound?
I finally found an answer from abes on this. midi preview uses a soundfile that is a small sine wave:

Re: Any way to change to MIDI preview sound?
And now in 2018 we have a solution!
Just search file named ”MidiPreHear.aif” and replace that file with any .aif file containing wanted preview sound sample. It was as ”easy” as this all the time

Right click on Ableton Live 10 in Applications folder > Show Package Contents > Contents > App-Resources > Misc > MidiPreHear.aif
Re: Any way to change to MIDI preview sound?
I wanted to be able to preview/prehear/audition MIDI clips on an external synth, so I rolled my own solution using Max. It's pretty basic, but does exactly what I need.
For anyone needing something similar, here's a starting point: https://github.com/samsta/min.midiout
Only builds on Mac OS, and only tested on Catalina, Ableton Live Suite 10 and 11 (Max4Live is required)

Wow, you are a genius!
I thought MidiPreHear.adv could be only saved Simpler or Sampler .adv, never thought about using M4L, much less about using such a routing inside Max!
If you don't need a external synth, you can use send/receive pairs, will only work internally and needs a second device to receive the MIDI, but works on Windows.
