VST upgrade, older sessions can't find them..
Hi guys. I recently upgraded to absynth4 and battery 3. When opening older sessions, these don't load, instead ableton says it failed to load VST absynth2 and battery 3. It doesn't recognize the newer versions as being the same thing. How can i take care of this?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Your old sessions won't recognize the new plugins; they have different plugin IDs than their predecessors.
The only way to fix it is to install both the older and newer versions and Live on a machine that will run the older versions (which your IntelMac can't do as a Mac; it can as a Windows box via bootcamp) and change them there.

It's something you're going to run into if you use different plugin IDs for new versions. It actually makes sense to do it that way if you stop and think about it.
There might be incompatibilities with other plugins or something along those lines. Let's say you made a Live set with the older version. You update to the newer version and open your set, using some of the newer features. Your set gets corrupted, or some other incompatibility causes Live to crash. You may never get the set open again using either the old or the new version of the plugin. The old one will look at the new features and say "WTF?" and give you warnings about needing a newer version, and the newer version won't run.

Ok thanks for your answers.
It's just that i'm used to using protools, and plugins are only identified by their name and not their version.
(my friend can open the same sessions although he has different versions of some plugins)
Lucky for me i still have my old G4 with all the older versions as well. Copying presets is the way to go i think... ?
