Not a vital thing really. It's more fiddly but if you want to move all faders at once you can just send their output to another channel. So if you're recording drums create a track called 'all drums' and then set the send to 'all drums' and bingo - one fader to rule them all.

i have tried this before but it is just like creating another master fader.
the reason i would like to use all faders at once is, sometimes i get a good mix, but a few of the tracks are clipping, instead of manually adjusting every track or typing in values on each track, i just turn them all down a few db and problem solved.

But this IS exactly what routing the channels to a single channel (creating an "additional master fader", i.e. a group) lets you do.

Grouping tracks has been asked for amny times, so it gets another +1 for me. I'd find this very useful too.

fwiw, clipping individual tracks should not matter unless you are using 3rd party plugins or external gear

right?

Yes, the only real concern is clipping the master.

From the standpoint of 'correctness', I've heard people say that technically you never want any of the track faders to be peaking higher than the master peaks.. but.. I'm not sure exactly why... might have something to do with headroom and dynamic range.. but I don't know.

Jep +1.

I use bus mixing alot. 3 channels for an acoustic guitar played through one channel. All the beats / drums through one master beat channel, but it is anoying when I wan't to solo the drums or the guitar. Then I have to solo the bus channel as well. Anoying, when coming from ProTools.. I think the group audio tracks wish would solve this as well.
FrostACM D50, TC electronic Konekt Live, (DIGI002, Mbox 1), ProTools LE 7.3, FCB1010, Novation ReMote 25SL (m-audio oxygen)

And mainly a guitarist/composer

Hi,

As in Live 7, the soloing of a track part of a mixing "group" does not mute the bus track, and vice versa. Are you using an earlier version of Live, or did you not find out?

I also think it would be quite handy to be able to select and move a couple of faders together, and of course groups would be nice both for editing and hiding!

And by handy and nice I mean necessary :!:  :!:
